Starting Problem

Post by RR55FOR » Sat Oct 24, 2009 10:37 am

I have done a search but have found nothing that can help. I am hoping one of you guys might be able to shed some light on my issue.

The issue is that when I go to start my car, with ign on and the clutch pressed the starter clicks loudly when I push the start button. I have checked for fault codes and when the car is standing with ign on it doesn't throw any codes. As soon as you press start and the starter clicks as it does it throw up a code - Starter Interlock Signal. If I clear this it does not come up again until I attempt to start. I have tried to bump it which works without an issue and the car runs as normal but the epc light is on.

I know this is quite atechnical question but cannot get any further at the moment.

Thanks in advanced.

I have looked at the clutch pedal switch but if you dont push the clutch pedal nothing happens at all. Then when you do it just clicks as said so I figured the clutch swithch must be working??

Does anybody know of ay good independents that may be able to help in the south east??

Hey, sorry to hear your are having some problems. My first check would be to charge the battery or jump start with a booster pack. Sometimes everything else will light up okay but there is not enough puff to turn the engine. This can cause the clicking. Failing that its probably the starter that has gone. Hope this might help. :)

I have tried with the jump pack already and even a new battery on the car and still the same. The battery on the car has turned out to be nakard because it wouldn't hold charge.
Is it possible that it may be the starter motor? Has this been heard of?

Am based in Sittingbourne, Kent and work near Dover. Why do you say it is the starter for sure then? Has this been heard of? Are there any independents instead of stealers around?

Thanks for replies, much appreciated.

Id personally recommend Maidstone Audi at Aylesford. Really exceptional service record from them on my car.
Everyone is unique, just like you and me.

I had the same, clicking noise, it was the starter motor, reason: Corrosion due to some thing splashing on the starter motor and alternator caused it to malfunction, prob due to car being in storage for 5 months. covered on warranty. the symptoms described are the same, so im just confident to say its that.

Have also now just found that the car is not charging either as the battery is dying out (brand fire new) and only making 11.5v whilst running. So now the car will not start and the charging system isn't working. Problems have to be linked surely?
Thanks

Alternator.
If the battery hasn't suffiecient power, then all that will happen when you try to start will be a clicking hoise from the starter motor - not enuff juice to turn it- the RS4s engine is a big old lump of metal to turn.

Guys
I really need some help as to who could look at this for me. There has to be a specialist that can help?
It is not the alternator as I have placed a new battery and from the outset the car would not start.

Many thanks in advance

It would help if we knew where you live... I can recommend a good independent garage near Southampton who I use, but if you don't live anywhere near there that won't help you!
