Fair play mate, well done for sticking to your guns and it does sound like a case of a gung ho copper who's way too big for his boots!

I wouldn't rock the boat, ride it out and ignore it for now. chances are the copper (if that's what he actually was) was just trying it on hoping you would hold your hands up and say "fair cop guv" - isn't it right that they have 14 days to get a NIP to you for something like this, or 6 months to get you to court otherwise it's null and void?
