S3 Air box mod

Post by Paul-RS » Tue Nov 25, 2003 7:18 pm

Simon, Dunc, Mick etc..

More info here.

last post particularly on page 3 ( box to change pages is in bottom RH corner)

Vagcom logs more air through the maf (got to be a good sign?)
but there is mention that there might be a slight increased in lag.

However, im sure if we didnt cut as much out the box, it could be reduced, but still get a increase in induction sound and performance too?

noise was lovely tho on demo drive.

Had a look at the cut up box attached
What's the point in having an air filter in there, they have cut holes underneath the filter so it's basically just sitting there scratching it's balls.
Thanx but no thanx.

air is sucked in from the bottom.

all air still has to go through the filter.

Just gives more induction noise, and a bit more airflow.

Hi chaps,

Just thought I'd comment on this one as I saw it in passing. Are you guys seriously considering cutting holes in your airboxes?????

The standard airbox is actually a very good design with a cold air feed from the grill. Why would you want to let lots of hot air from around the engine in? Am I missing something here?... I dont think this mod would have a beneficial effect because as soon as the engine gets hot your inlet temps will go up through the roof due to dragging hot air from around the engine and hence the boost would be backed off. I had considered the heat, but like Wak, thought it would be a better solution and less prone to heat than a full on induction kit, which i just wouldnt do. It also would retain the audi look under the bonnet.

I would have bought a spare airbox to play with, so i could revert to standard.

Ill knock this idea on the head for now and give it some more thought

Yep, thats much better, enclosed filter with cold air feed. You'll get much better results out of that.
