Don't know how you could have an RS4 parked up and take another car out to work/play.

I want to enjoy ownership of my car every day, nothing comes close

If you don't look forward to getting in your RS4 and driving it every day, sell it

When, and if, that happens to me, that's what i'll do, bit like a divorce really !!

sorry to bring this old threa back to life...but i dumped my gutless petrol A2 1.4, and picked up a 1.4 TDI instead.....all I can say it WOW !

and why? I refer the WOW to the fuel economy....

I just drove Edinburgh - Manchester, Manchester - Grantham, Grantham - London. 500 miles, on ONE 42l tank of Diesel.

And then when I filled up, the range showed this !

Don't get a Polo Bluemotion as a runabout if you want economy - the loan car I had a couple of weeks ago was showing an average of only 42mpg despite VW claims to do 60mpg or so. The problem is that you have to rev it so hard to get any "go" and then the boost comes in really strong so economy goes out of the window.

Even with me doing 19000 miles per year of which 13000 are business related buying, taxing, MOTing, maintaining and insuring another car would not be covered by the fuel savings on the RS4. I've just done the sums and the running the RS like I do would still be 1k per year better off than having another car.

tax on the A2 is £35 for the year. Service is every 2 years.
and are you factoring the entire purchase price of a second car, or just the depreciation realised at resale?

The main reason I got the RS4 is so I could drive it all the time! Had mainly Posrches in recent years but whenever a trip to the shops, relatives', business came up had to swap to the boring family estate! Now I get to drive a fanastic car even on the most mundane trips ... :D

mundane is the word. I have a 5 mile commute with a big black labrador. Cannot see the point of using the rs so a 1.2 micra for me during the week.

this is where im coming from...my commute, although 20 miles each way, is very boring and rarely get above 40 - 50 mph, with no quick acceleration opportunities

Therefore I could easily drive the RS, but put miles on it I dont need to and spend x3 times as much on Fuel, and forget about the wear on tyres, brakes etc

Instead I drive the A2, which is as comfortable thanks to leather interior, yet saves me all of the above unnecessary costs

I used to do a 4 miles commute at an average of 20mph, but I still took the RS - why?

Because when it was a sunny lunchtime I could have an enjoyable hours "blast" in the country roads within easy reach of work.

Made even the worst day at work into a good day!

I know how much the A2 running costs are, my partner has one. on 13000 business miles per year servicing would be more then every couple of years, more like every year. A2 parts and consumables are not cheap if we were takliing about an A2, and as per the other discussion o here warranties are not cheap either. I considered this against a Seat Ibiza, Skoda Fabia, VW Polo / Golf / Lupo and Audi A2/3 1.9TDi in the hope that having a VAG trained mechanic contact would be able to do servicing cheaper then dealer based and the economy of a diesel.

The insurance and outlay minus resale and depreciation difference on the RS4 with / without business mileage really broke the model for me, plus my commute is 80+ miles on the A19 and as much as economy would be good the ability to utilise the RS4's performance on a dark and miserable morning is the bit the relieves the monotony of the journey. May be a different decision if I didn't have the RS4 already but I do.

Pahhhh RS4 ownership is not about fuel economy, or cost cutting methods. the RS4 is very much like a pretty women.......
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

So a diesel A3 can do 910 mile range and the A2 can have a 710 mile range. I've had 460 on the RS4 and 510 on my old S4 DIS but its missing the point of RS ownership.

Shocking economy gents!

I usually get between 270 and 320 miles per tank, over a 20 mile commute on A/B roads, so occasional overtaking opportunities

It's hard to think about leaving the RS4 at home when you climb in and push the button... but still...
