How to reset adaptive ECU settings - again

Post by daviesd » Thu Jul 30, 2009 10:49 pm

Hi guys

Sorry to bring this up again, but can anyone remember how to 'reset' the engines adaptive ecu settings???

Its been driving around a small island for the last 9 months and it just doesn't feel the same animal as it once was. Just had its second service and I asked them to reset the settings but they had never heard of anything like this.

I did search the forums and people talked about Camberley Audi being able to do it, but never really explained what they did - so I can pass it on to my dealer. Is it something that can be done through VAG??

thanks

David

IIRC it is a dealer only thing but essentially it resets the Bosch Motronic ECU's 'learned values', i.e. how you drive and the alteration of fueling ingition, timing etc.

You can do it through VAG-COM by resetting both ECU. This resets any learned values and all codes.

Thanks guys, any idea what to ask the dealer specifically to do and do you know where in VAG-COM the reset is? Are you all still resetting yours or does giving it a good thrashing keep it mean

Worth trying this.

Whilst driving in high gear give the brake pedal a quick dab so the ECU recognises the brake has been applied and immediately give it full throttle. I do this on my S4 and its like a different car and it's free.

Hi,

Performing a Throttle Body Alignment ( TBA) through VAG-Com is suppost to reset the adaptive learned values. The only way to do a TBA is via Vag-Com. There are a lot of old wife's tales about opening the bonnet, ... etc.
See http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/throttlebody.html

BTW, the message from no_RS was something that I discovered while reading a technical article about the Bosch Motronic system. If the brake is applied and released and the throttle immediately pressed, the ECU thinks you are left foot braking and trying to balance the car around a corner and will honour the "torque request" from the throttle pedal without any clever adaptive logic, etc.

Regards, Chris.

I thought that only reset the TBA learned values, not the learned values for injection and ignition timing?

Yep echo the above.

Learnt values are done by going into 10 - adaptation, and then 00 - reset to factory default.........AFAIK anyway!
