A successful link run, to my mind, is one where there's a good possibility of a clear shot at the hill and a better than evens chance of not attracting unwanted attention, say at night in a discreet car.
Last week I saw a bloke in an orange Gallardo attempt it at half past ten on a Thursday morning.

An RS246 moment in Newbury
Tried the run in my younger step daughter's MGF and was in the throes of getting 100 by the bridge when a pimply yoof in a yellow Ibiza went past me like I was tied to a tree.
We spoke - well, to begin with, I spoke and he looked dead shifty - in Tesco's filling station and it turns out he's done a nice job; stage 3 turbo and 260bhp. I think he's done the brakes as well because having overtaken me up the hill he moved left and braked hard and I was in a spot of bother for a few moments
He reckoned his best is 135 at the bridge.
Does anyone do the slingshot time on the back down to the bridge on the return run? I haven't, I just wonder sometimes when I'm cruising back why I didn't.
