Brembo Big Brake conversion

Post by rAudiguy » Sat Jul 25, 2009 5:43 pm

Hi Guys,

well the mod's keep coming, latest being a set of Brembo 385mm cross drilled brakes with the Pagid RS-29 yellow pads.

First thing to say is the standard brakes aren't bad but I'm sure many of you will agree that after a bit of use they do tend to fade and I never really felt they were that pleasing under my foot. Well The Brembo upgrade fixes any thing I had to moan about before. No fade any more and wow are they smooth and strong. put your foot down hard from high speed and the response is just what you want. not over aggressive but just right the harder your push the quicker you stop with no judder etc. If you slam them on realy hard you can feel the back go light and all your inner organs start to rush to the front of your body..... I guess it's not all down to the disc the Pagid pads obviously play a big part in the way the new set up works. They do need to get warm but before they do warm up if I'm honest they seem to be similar to the standard ones. it's once they are warm that you realise how good they are. At £545 a set they're not cheap but I hope they will last well and will keep you posted on what the brake dust is like from them. All in all very happy indeed with how they look, feel and work.

One down side is it's now even harder to clean the front wheels  and of course no 18" track wheels but who cares.........

A selection of pictures for you. Note that they have 4 holes instead of 3 and that they are almost twice the size. I have included a couple of pictures from a distance because that's when you really notice just how much bigger they are and how they fill the wheels. Excuse the rust I had just washed the car.....

Enjoy, any comments welcome

:D

Apologies in advance for all the questions but is this a mod you can do yourself Jim? I remember you saying something about a spacer to reposition the caliper to get 385mm disks in?

Also do the RS Pagids have brake sensors in them? £545 (I gather that is disks and pads?) is pretty damn good given Audi want £1k for discs alone and TPS £868 including pads. And what have you been advised on the potential wear rate with the slightly more agressive pads?

Hi Graeme,

Lol I wish!! no £545 is just pads mate discs are around £1250.

No the pads do not have sensors in them as they are really race pads. Wear rate should be better than OEM I hope......... but I guess only time will tell.

nice work Jim, are the prices quoted including fitting then? I decided in the end to just get OEM front disks through Audi. I managed to convince them to fit them for £600 including VAT and fitment...
