RS4 (B7) to new RS6 Saloon

Post by honest » Fri Jul 17, 2009 3:31 pm

Thinking of swapping for a new RS6 Saloon.

Should I do it? If so why?
Should I not, if so why?

Also, I have heard of massive discounts on the RS6, whats the best deal you have got? Are there deals around on a Saloon?

All help appreciated.

Thanks!

Know my local audi dealer bought 40 and sold all in one weekend (heavily discounted by 10K). Don't know what this will do to residuals.

As for changing to an RS6 - my wife sat in one and it was too big. Interior is nice though. Don't expect to get anywhere near the (crap) mpg you get with the RS4.
In the real world - is it much faster??
Also think the RS6 is just a little too bland looking (I know its meant to be but.....).

Lastly - still an amazing car though.

Silly question probably, but have you driven one yet?

I was thinking along the same lines as yourself, except an Avant. I was watching the prices heading south, even considering a brand new one for early £60s, but then I had a go in one.

It's a very different kind of car to the RS4. Very very fast, but a little, dare I say, soulless. (In a 580hp, 0-60 in 4.5 seconds way.) Like a very expensive automatic diesel.

I decided the £30k it would have cost to change over should stay with the loan company for a while yet.

The growing family may necessitate one one day, but for now, I'm happy with my little RS4.

I was at my local dealer the other week, they had an RS6 avant in misano with £80k on the windscreen, and my overiding thought was that there's just no way this car is 50 (or even 30) grand nicer than my RS4 avant which was parked very close to it. In fact, they looked extremely similar at a glance, especially with them both being misano and having the same wheels. My car was attracting as much interest from punters as the RS6 too. Add to this that my RS4 would be more fun to drive, probably quicker A to B and much more economical, not to mention that it won't lose me heaps of money in the next couple of years! I am probably going to stay with this until the replacement RS4 is out.

I sat in the RS6 saloon at Goodwood - I was very impressed. Saloons seem to be pretty rare so not sure what sort of discount you'd be able to get on one. Having driven another automatic with paddleshift gears recently I firmly believe this is the way to go.

As for the driving experience only you will be able to decide whether it's what you're looking for - from what I've read, the RS6 saloon rides better than the Avant, but neither is as sporting as the RS4.

As said, completely different driving prospects. RS6 is ballisticaly quick in a straight line buy shows its weight in the corners. Given an M5 is supposed to be quicker round a track than an RS6 on the TG test track it and the Jag XFR are 1:28 something and the RS4 is 1:25.4 it shows the smaller lighter car has a handling advantage.

If I was doing motorway bashing all the time and had the space at home I'd have an RS6.

I feel for people like UNI555 though because whilst at the dealership last week I notice that a lot of new style A6 models now have the new 5 spoke RS6 style replicas on them. I do hate it when Audi dilute RS features to their lesser models as quickly as they do.

Tell me about it! Noticed the same thing when I was there, only comfort was the fact that they were (apart from the RS6) all smaller versions and mine still looked a bit special by virtue of being huge! Of the cars in the showroom I think all had either the RS4 or rs6 style wheels!
