Not a happy bunny
RE: Re: Not a happy bunny
I had a dally with an Astra VXR on the motorway and quite frankly he was nowhere near. Funny too, because he was clearly used to being faster than most and got very very angry when he wasn't.

i would challange u in my 6 mtm stage3 and put money on itgolfather wrote:RS6's are not as quick as people think !
Firstly its that quattro thing that saps nearly 100bhp.
Then theres the small issue of WEIGHT !
And then even the smallest of issues such as dodgy MAF, leaking intercooler, heatsoak, all may mean you are losing power and need to get it checked out.
I had a go with a MRC'd and Milltek'd RS6 recently in my humble R32 Golf and it certainly raised a few eyebrows
All to do with power to weight.

Re: RE: Not a happy bunny
Is your R32 modified? A standard R32 has a pwr of around 170 doesn't it? The RS6 is into the 240s, so no comparison. A standard R32 would get nowhere near in a straight line.golfather wrote:RS6's are not as quick as people think !

A standard S3 has a pwr of around 180 as well.
Your car cannot be running right because my calculations have determined that even a new S3 in a high state of tune (circa 330hp) will still only have a power-to-weight ratio of 227hp/tonne and very roughly, 215lbft/tonne - both figures being lower than even a standard RS6 (although the torque figure gets very, very close - only 8 lbft/tonne less).
I would, at the very least, get your car health checked by someone like MRC to determine if something is amiss, such as a boost leak or failing MAF etc. just to put your mind at rest.
If there is even the slightest problem on your car, then my calculations suggest that the S3 torque/tonne figure (a tuned one remember) will be superior to yours and hence the slightly embarrassing outcome of that traffic-light grand-prix.
If however the S3 was standard then I'd be concerned that there was a massive problem with your car, since a standard S3 only has 179hp/tonne. Therefore, I believe that it had to be tuned. Either that or you are only running on one bank of the V8!!

Like Mo said, the power-wieght issue shouldnt really have been an issue. You should have smoked him (unless he had a quaiffe dif or something).
With the 6 there are many factors that go against us:
- Current heat wave will speed up heat soak hence lack of pace after a couple of secs
- MAF's are moody at the best of times.
- S3 would probably have been a manual which unless you know how to launch your auto box is a good advantage.
- Fuel!! What were you using?
- If you had been thrashing her prior to the race then the engine will already be very hot and not at peak performance.
The list goes on. If in doubt, find him and try it from say 20mph up to 70 in sport mode. If you don't kill the little hatch then there is a good excuse to see MRC!

Why don't you just do a "quick and dirty" check? Time a 30 to 100 run. Should be under 10 secs in a standard car and around 8 in a tuned one. If you are running over 10, something is not quite right.B17NME wrote:Thanx for all the advice lads its been very interesting and helpfull. Please explain

It's easy to be surprised in an RS6. I was put to shame by a friend in a Focus ST because he was on the boil and I wasn't. Simple as that. By the time the gearbox has decided what gear it wants to be in, the other car is 100 yards in front of you and laughing at you in the rearview (but not for long, admittedly
)

Re: RE: Not a happy bunny
Totally disagree with that, mine has only been mildly tuned (approx 500 bhp) but yet it has completely 5h1t on some serious equipment EG 911 turbos and standard 360`s.golfather wrote:RS6's are not as quick as people think !

The S3 must have been BIG power??
RE: Re: RE: Not a happy bunny
To launch it. Put left foot on brake pedal. Put right foot on accelerator until the brake feels like its struggling to hold, then let the brake off. Not good for the gearbox this one but it works.
