Brake rotors -- recommendations?

Post by ghoonk » Tue Jun 16, 2009 3:58 pm

Just spoke to my specialist garage service guy and he's confirmed that my front and rear brake rotors are going to be due for replacement in another 20,000 km or so.

I just got quoted GBP1660 for all 4 rotors -- if this too much to pay?

What sort of prices are you guys getting in the UK? If any of you are kind enough to point me in the right direction where I can get replacements for a decent price, I'd be very appreciative :)

Nope, no luck. Nothing came up

How much are you guys paying in the UK for a full set of RS4 brake rotors?

Further to Ghoonk's email to me today, I thought I should enlighten the forum to a rotor option that I was not previously aware of...

I think the fellow is skinning you for all it's worth. Got my front rotors from Singapore and that set me back SGD 1,300 per pair, which is about GBP 580? The rear rotors can't possibly be GBP 1k right?

Or is yours the ceramic rotors?

The jh motorsports ones are quite a steal :) . You could go big brake kit with the following options: alcons at 370 mm (arround 3500 usd) , brembo discs and brackets 2000 euro, brembo 6pot calipers an discs (lots of $$$) or movit ceramic carbon for 16000 euro (thats right) . Rear discs are going to be on offer as well for a bargain price from jhm . Don't know when though.

Yep, decided to go for them in the end, them JHM ones. I've bought stuff from Jason in the past and have been nothing short of happy with their service and turnaround. The new rotors cost me USD425, plus another USD270 for shipping halfway across the world, FedEx 3 day delivery.

They are currently out of stock and I am waiting for a new batch that's coming this week :)

Keep us posted on how you get on with these discs. I am contemplating this route if after skimming both sets of fronts I currently have. Should both sets warp again then new rotors are a serious contender unless I get get hold of a decently priced set of ceramics. I'm not far off shelling out in price the equivalent number of steel discs that a set of ceramics would cost.

It turns out my original suspicions were right and I am in need of rear discs rather than fronts. I just wish they made them of better material, there is no way these should warp as often as they do.

Thanks Sar, it's the PCD of the disc we need, I'm to lazy to take the wheel off,
Has any one got a old disc they could check or can send me one, I will pay there postage.
My mate also says there should be no need for the bells to be replaced, Just a new set of bolts.
Having had a RS4 for a 18 months the discs are my only complaint.
He also goes on to say the bigger the disc the easier they warp,
