Anyone had Toyos on?

Post by rikardo » Tue Jun 30, 2009 1:03 am

44.000m and ready for 3rd set of rubber - actually desperate, as my 275/30/19 right front Goodyear F1 is disintegrating on the inside. Noticed a 'flapping' sound tonight as i drove it home and stopped to have a feel. Not even sure it's safe to drive.

Anyhow - I liked my PS2s which it came on, lasted 22.000 (yes a lot of M1 driving!!). F1s (oversized) have been ok, but i cant say i'd rave about them. And the old 'scrubbing' noise on full lock came in after only 5.000 miles.

I used to have toyo proxes on my old TT and loved them. Awesome grip - even in wet, good wear and looked fab. It's the only time anyone has actually asked if I've had new tyres on my car!!

I can get the toyo proxes t1-r fitted at £175/corner on the 255/35/19. Or is it worth 'supersizing' again? Not sure i felt any gain - and quite certain that the early onset of 'skipping' on full lock was because of the large tyre.

I'm really surpirsed no-one here seems to be mentioning the toyos - are they that bad? :?

I'll probably go for it and report back, but any comments would be appreciated.

I've not used them on the 4 but previous experience is that they are very soft and wore quickly. I'm on the verdesteins and really like them.

i've used ulltrac sessanta's on a few cars now and have been very happy with them..progressive handling, wear well and handy money..

have to say though, the sport sontact 3's that are on this rs4 are very very good indeed as well.

No experience of what these are like to run but they look the dogs, esp on Macs. Wouldnt have thought they would be great in the wet though there more like semi slicks 8)

Had Toyo T1-S's (or was it T1-R's?) briefly on my S4 when I got Sportec Mono's and they were good tyres but the only comment I would have is the wear rate was not as good as the at the time similarly tread patterned Goodyear F1 GS-D3's, the latter subsequently replaced by assymetrics.

I got TOYO T1-Rs (265x30x19) on my B5, very happy with them, I've had these in the past when I had my 18" BBS RSs, never let me down, great road handling both wet and dry, find them better in the wet! Low road noise, progressive wearing, good value for money I found, other than that, i've eperience Dunlop Sports, crappy Falkens.

Alot of people vouch for the Vredesteins, not yet gone that route, maybe next set

Had the Toyo T1-R's on my previous GTI. Lasted a mere 17,000 km with steel braid showing. Rotated the tyres every 5,000 km.

Wet grip was real bad, used to get traction control lights flashing like mad on a 80-90 km/h when the road was wet. This was halfway through the life of the tyres. Dry traction was not bad.

Loved the GS-D3, absolutely dislike the Assymetric that came after them. IMHO Goodyear lost the plot on this as it feels vague compared to the predecessor.
