Check you're getting enough power...

Post by Shoppinit » Sun Jun 28, 2009 11:57 am

If you can't get to a rolling road (like me), how about this:

Bring car up to temperature. Film your speedo while you accelerate as quickly as possible. Check the 0-60 time on the video.

If you get to 60 in 4.6 then you've got all your horses.

Sound about right?

What do you think the 0-60 is on yours, and what mods have you done.

True, but easy enough to calibrate with a gps unit.

Mine's completely standard, so i'd expect the book figures if all is well. Especially since the official 4.6 is supposed to be conservative.

I got one of thsoe GTech things many years ago (the first one in this page http://www.gtechpro.com/prod.html), and they're apparently very accurate. I must get around to testing my RS6 though...!

I think the tomtom will be close enough. I noticed in the USA (where speedos don't over read) that it was displaying exactly the same speed as the car.

I've just noticed that it's not a gps speed thing... Could be interesting. How does it work? Like the "butt dyno" method?

How about a 30 to 70 run or 30 to 100. Probably kinder on the car?

That makes more sense. Does anyone know the factory figures for these runs?

I've ordered one of these now. I'll be bugging all my friends to test the power in their cars.

Autocar did a 0-100 test which came out to over 11 secs. This sounds wrong to me as my car does 30-100 in about 8 secs. 30-70 is quoted as about 4.5 I think, but again I can do that in under 4 secs.
