Warranty

Sorry to raise this issue again as Ive read it elsewhere - lots of posts on this subject but I'm no more wiser than when I started.

Very simple question: I have a 2003 RS6, 77000 miles, bought privately, no warranty. ( yes I know it was probably a bad idea :-O )

Which company? Any recommendations?

Unless you pay a massive premium they will only cover work up to a certian value anyway!
Probably better off to just have a savings account for maintenance or major failure, I do this and usually dont need to dip into it. Then when I change vehicle theres a bit to put towards the next car.

I have to echo Matt1979's comments.

I renewed my policy again this year with WarrantyWise with their "No Quibble Warranty" for a cracked InterCooler and they won't pay up. The premium had gone up 50% over last year's so didn't expect any issue but apparently I haven't followed their procedures even though I explained in my letter the circumstances as to why I went ahead with the work. Apparently you have to sit and wait for all the paperwork to go through irrespective of whether you have an impending road trip to Italy. The cost of the warranty would have covered the majority of the cost of the IC and labour!!!

Waste of money!

Many thanks for the above comments. I guess it all comes down to risk. Either save some money in a fund and take a risk that it will be sufficient for repairs or take a risk on a warranty company actually paying up for something. There probably is no right wrong answer. Just personal preference. As the amounts for getting a warranty are not insignificant, I think I'm edging towards the 'rainy day fund' approach and 'fingers-crossed' 'touch wood'!! Sods law states that whichever way I go would be wrong anyway!!! I must admit though that reading other comments around the forums saying that regular servicing and maintenance will dramatically reduce the 'chance' of something going wrong.

Ditto for me with the above points. I'm with Warranty Direct and given my time over again, I wouldn't waste my time or money, I'd just build a 'slush fund' for any costs. I imagine you would be ok with an Audi warranty but would personally avoid the 3rd party aftermarket ones like the plague.

It pays to go with an Audi warranty.
It seems like a lot of money, but gives full peace of mind, and covers you for pretty much anything, without the hassle of any paperwork and waiting for approvals.
Plus it adds to the value of the car when you come to sell it.

The cost of the Audi Warranty was OK when the car was < 5 years old, but then it went a bit silly, plus the cover was reduced.

The Named components cover from Audi is still very comprehensive.
It also depends on what dealership you take it to as some are willing to submit more claims than others...
Plus the cost of a box alone is around 6k fitted at Audi so the warranty is still cheap in comparison

so maybe an Audi warranty could be a possibility. Haven't contacted audi yet. I assume they probably wouldn't touch my 2003 77000 miler??? And if so it could be a scary premium!?!?

The cost would be £2500 for 1 year warranty got the same problem just save money and hope.

AFIK the Audi warranty is only available up to 5 years old, and under 100K miles

all component is available up to 5 yrs, 100k. . . named component is over 5 yrs up to 100k. . . .

mines under all component until Sept, then i will renew the named component, but that will be my last one as it'll go over 100k by Sept 2010. . . .then it will be time for an RS 4 !
