LPG??
LPG??
Has anyone actually investigated having their S4 converted to LPG?
With the galloping fuel costs of my Stage 3 V8 I was wndering if the 102 octane LPG option might be worth a look from both a performance and cost perspective?
There's a company I found called Green Fuel who've got a pic of an Audi 4.2 V8 on their website and they claim to get great results?

I've done some research on the subject and theres quite a lot to consider, obviously cost of conversion about £2k+ for an eight cylinder, not all insurance companies like LPG, the quality of the conversion and the kit used- there are many manufacturers, calorific value of LPG is lower than Petrol so less MPG- roughly 20/25% less, size of gas tank and where to site it. Some engines will not be able to be converted since there valves can be damaged, although the 4.2 v8 SEEMS to be ok. Availability of gas enroute and local to you, plus the price seems to be rising all the time. Justify conversion costs and going out of ones way to obtain gas, mileage covered is an important factor. Theres likely more stuff to consider than this..

I have owned my A8 4.2 Quattro 2004 which has the same engine as you chaps now and had it for a year. I had it converted the day I got it and no problem whatsoever. No power loss, very smooth and no check engine lights or nothing. The BRC LPG kits are by far the best after I did alot of extensive research. The kit is top notch but importantly the mapping software is as well enabling extreme fine tuning of the kit, unlike some of the others out there.
I had my LPG filler hidden as it is awful IMO for an Audi.
Speak to Gary at CLS Dual Fuel in Durham (www.agpl.co.uk) and mention my A8. He will tell you all about it.
My gas tank is where my spare wheel went. 40k miles on it in one year too. Gas on average is around 50p in town, and 60p out of town a litre. Plenty of filling stations. Conversion cost was £2184.00 all in.

Sorry not an S4, but gives you an idea.

So with the LPG conversion, does it affect the way the S4 will fall into the new road tax costs? I see in the other thread it's dropped by £10, but wondered if it'd stop you going to £400 pa? Certainly wouldn't take as long to re-coup your costs if it did.

you get a £40 cheaper road tax disk, but I understnad if its a 2003 you dont pay the massive overhaul in road tax as that is 2006 owards cars? I am currently getting my S4 converted using a BRC system by www.gas4cars.co.uk and they really know their stuff! roll on the 1sts of July when I am back off holiday and get my baby back! will update this then with my experiences of it.
Hi, I can report that I had my conversion carried out in october last year on my 04 S4 & have since covered 35000 miles (it's a taxi) !! with no problems at all. I would unreservedly recommend this conversion to anybody,in fact, you are mad if you dont if you do a lot of miles or live in London ( no congestion charge) PM me if you need any more info

Ok, seems like gas4cars are cowboys as so far i have had nothing but problems... Wrong tank, leaking gas, damaged plastic trims, broken battery cover, u name it, plus the car runs badly now... Anyone know of a good lpg garage to get an independant inspection of the install? Can audi do it? I am in milton keynes so closest is best for me... Anyone else noticed a lack of power? Seems sluggish and weak between 5-7k rpm
please help!
please help!
If youve noticed a difference in power, you definately have a problem.Sometimes, when I run out of gas & have to switch to petrol,I forget to switch back & get no clue from the performance !!! Sorry to hear about your problems & hope you get them to sort them out. Just proves the advantage of groundwork when entrusting your pride & joy to someone !!!
