More exhaust noise needed !!!

Post by piooly » Tue Jun 02, 2009 2:01 pm

Loving my RS6 which I have had for a week now. Only thing is I would like it to sound a bit louder. I dont want to spend a lot of money on a new exhaust system etc so I wondered if it was possible to remove the center silencers maybe with a straight through pipe???

Anyone done this and whats it like. I dont want it to be loud, just wnat little more growl from the car instead of its near silence it is now....

Will this mess up the emissions too for MOT's as I dont want any problems with those.

Dont want to remove the cats either.

I had the resonators removed on my std exhaust, sounds loads better, was cheap to do. Not overly loud, just bit more v8 sound.Psi in Stoke-on trent did it for me while they fitted my coilovers.

That sounds like what I am after. Just a bit more V8 sound but not overly loud. I dont really want it to be any louder when I am cruising, just want a bit more V8 when I accerlerate.

How much did you pay to have that done by the way?

I was thinking of getting a Milltek cat back non resonated exhaust but seeing the comments on this post, it seems such a simple and cheap modification is to take the resonators out.

I am wondering therefore why more owners haven't done this ?

Does anyone have a video clip of a car with the resonator on and off? I dont want it to be too loud. I'm used to very loud cars. My old lotus elise had a very small muffler on it, almost straight pipe and no cat and was silly loud but this is a cruising car so must still be quiet for cruising, just want the soundtrack when I am giving it some. Dont mind an overall louder burble to it as its too quiet anyway...

i haven t got any clips of mine but it s not too loud, just slightly nicer. I know that owners with r32 golfs have removed resonators fo ages to make them sound louder, think the reason not more people do it is that you don t really get any performance increase, where with a miltek you would.

Hi George.

Spoke to PSI in Stoke and they charge £145 to remove the resonators, £40 parts and 3 hours labour. They said your sound great. Are you based in Stoke? My car in booked in to have them removed on Saturday at 10am and just wondered if I could have a listen to yours prior to the appointment. I think it will be just what I am after, just dont want it to be too loud thats all.

Why would removing the resonators not give more power but a Milltek would ?

Surely if you have no resonators it not only increases the sound but must give more flow through and less back pressure and therefore more power ?

Yes this is true but unless you are re-mapping the ECU to take account of this then the benifit will be less anyway. And that goes for fitting a Miltek too.
