AUX input or video input possible??

Post by piooly » Sun May 31, 2009 5:44 pm

Ok got my RS6 last week and loving it. Best car I have ever owned.

Anyway is it possible to fit an ipod to the car. Is there anyway an Aux input can be fitted or could it go through a spare video input on the TV unit? I am very handy with electronics etc so dont mind cutting wires etc. I have heard about some expensive bits of kit that you can buy but there must be a 'cheap' way of getting a headphone jack into the stereo.

Oh I've also tried an FM modulator and its ok but I would prefer a hard wired connection as it sounds a lot better.

Get yourself a DLO homedock and a Kufatec IMA. Videos and full control of the Ipod (song titles etc)

Does that work on RNS-D too? Or is it just RNE-E?

Answered my own question. Yes, it seems based on the Kufatec site. I wonder how it uses the RNS-D controls.

Otherwise you can do what I did which is splice into the TV tuner cable to add 2 Aux AV which you can select from the head unit. I then got a Kensington LiquidAux to listen to the iPhone through. Sounds good.

Cool. On mine I've got the DVD player, etc on AV1 and the iphone on AV2. I also added an AUX input on the centre console to plug any audio input in.

Let me know if you need the pinout.

If you can't be bothered to do all the soldering then you could get this:

pretty cheap.

Otherwise, here's the pin-out :

Excuse my naivity, but why do you need the DLO and the Kufatec? The advert I'm reading on Amazon makes out that you just need the DLO to plug into the CD changer port.

Where is that on the RS6? Boot or behind the radio?

Just put down a deposit for a black 2003 RS6 saloon yesterday... Thanks again to those who contributed advice on my earlier thread.

I'm confused too. I only want to be able to play my ipod, not worried about the tv/av thing. I don't see how a DLO does this? Nor do I see how the Kufatek does this or is it one of those things which plays through the FM radio frequency I'd rather it (or the dock for it) was hard wired in in some way. My B7 RS4 had a dock in place of the cd changer in the glovebox.
Congrats on your car gladders when do you get it? I get mine Friday all being well.
Edited to add that my car is a + so has the later Satnav with 'fold out' screen with MMI slots behind it.

I've just done some sniffing around on the net and Dension make products which appear to do what I want - the 'Gateway 500' model appears to be recommended for MMI units which I presume is what i have. Anyone any experience of these?

But then you lose the CD changer.

You can tap into the TV tuner cable to add 2 AV inputs. YOu can then hardwire whatever you want into these Audio VIdeo inputs - iPod, Playstation, bluetooth, reverse camera, digital TV, anything.

I, for example, have added a jack socket for aux input in the centre console which is wired into the AV input (no video, just audio)

By using the DLO and the Kufatec IMA you can have full control of your ipod by using the controls of the head unit (either the RNS-D or E.) It will also show the song tittles on the display (RNS) works better with the RNS-E but also works on the D. Have just upgraded to an E from a D. You can also watch videos and it charges your ipod. have a look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCfrWP_JR60

Sorry for late reply gord. Been absolutely loving the new addition, which I picked up Friday lunchtime. It does sound like it has a small jet engine under the bonnet when the air-con's on, though. Anyone got any tips on what that might be? It's quiet in "Econ" mode.

Is the DLO/Kufatec solution easy to fit, and how does the Dension product compare? Just looking for a cheap iPod solution, but earlier reviews of the Audi offering really put me off with all this chat about only accessing playlists and having to put 1000's of songs on one list. The reviews I could find on here do date back to 2006, though. Not sure if the product has been improved? I've got a RNS-D, if that aids any advice-giving...

That said, I had no idea that a V8/twin turbo soundtrack could be quite so addictive...
