Spare Wheel Fitment??

Post by eyeball » Sun May 03, 2009 4:05 pm

Sorry about this...But I was told there was already a thread regarding this question but I can't find it???
Basically I want to put a spare wheel in my rs rather than expanding spunge and foot pump.lol
So will a standard RS wheel fit in or is the a mod I need to do?? :?
Cheers...

I fitted a full size sits slightly proud of wheel well though.
I removed the boot striker protection and trimmed it around the wheel well so that it fits (if that makes sense).

Hi davs4,
Yes I understand what your saying there mate. When you say the wheel sits proud...does it actually lift the floor carpet up?? If it does and the carpets doesnt sit to high then I'll give it a go....

Yes mate, floor carpet is about 1/2" - 1" higher thats all, I don't notice any detriment.

I managed to fit an OEM B5 RS4 18" rim + tyre in the wheel well without trimming anything; the boot carpet stands maybe 0.5" higher than normal but is not noticeable.

Secret to get away without trimming anything ? Deflating the tyre....if I need to use the spare I'll pump it up with the 12V pump :)

Would it help if one was to put on a 225 width tire instead of 255?

I assume it would protrude less and the size difference wouldn't be a big problem for a short trip.

Has anyone tried this?

the correct spare for the rs4 is called a winter wheel. its 7.5x18 and wears a 225 tyre. it looks like a rs6 wheel having 5 spokes but has the correct et20 offset. and has a polystryene insert inside it for the jerk etc :nogarors4:

Thanks for that Jimbo, this has be the best way todo it. It doesnt really matter about being the same style wheel you'll probably never use it. Where would be best for getting this complete set up?
