There is a time & a place but what's the world going to be like if we can't extend our right foot & have some fun?

A

fade2grey, I'm with you 100% on that one! I am quite hedonistic and there is a fine line between fun and fear. Nice to keep the fear to myself and not others though.

I know calvanistic is to do with wearing smart expensive boxer shorts, and falacious is what lesbians do but what does puritanical and omnipotent mean?

Andiroo

I think omnipotent is something gentlemen with large tackle do to several ladies in porn films...
Thats nice to know. I assume you accuse me of being anally retentive. Freuds psychoanalytical theory would suggest that I would be "stingy and obsessionally clean". Nice to see another good demonstration of you knowledge on these matters.

I am trying to remember if Freud ever used case material on the indigenous north of border Britains... it might explain that theory?

Anyway, if ESP is the Superego (the socialised self), I am definitely the unkempt ID and the Ego is the ESP button, which I steadfastly refuse to press.

Now we're getting somewhere. Any Jungians in the house so we can have a proper argument?

Yawn. You are very tiresome. I still see no point to your argument and trying to hide behind religeous bigotry, the misinterpretation of psychoanalytic theory and such doesn't really strengthen your position. What you say above is the most ridiculous part of this entire argument.

If you would care to inform me on your views on the BENEFITS of ESP OFF then I'll gladly listen, but stop getting tongue tied trying to argue with semantics and quotes.

I'm from England BTW

I like Jung's theories:) He who applies an evidence base and fact to an argument rather than just a simple theory base sounds good. Jung is quite topical to what is happening here

You are missing the point David - it's very simple.

You prefer to have ESP on most of the time and I tend to keep it off (with the exception of motorway journeys).

This isn't a technical argument; it's a question of choice based on a philosophy of life. It is technically proven that ESP provides an extra film of personal safety - my point of contention is whether this layer is really necessary?

It is a deep question and I'm sorry it causes you fatigue. If we proceed with eliminating all risk from our lives what is left in our de-contaminated risk averse incubated routines? Ennui.

So I still say switch off the ESP, slam the foot to the floor and head for the apex...

Granted.

You have not explained your rationale for having ESP off other that that accounted for by (potential) risk taking behaviour. I cannot see how much better the car is with ESP off, when mine doesn't come on except in extremis....

Well my experience of ESP is it cuts in annoyingly just when I'm sliding round a corner about to floor it out the other end. So I lose all power and - typically - the nonce in the Scoobie that I'm chasing.

Not exactly technical but that's what happens. Maybe I'm a bad driver but I find it doesn't happen with ESP off.

Hehe! ESP is worth switching off if a subaru is involved [discredits his entire argument]

I just noticed you have an S3. I should say of the several S3s I have driven some have a more hyperactive ESP than others (and this was confirmed by Audi Techs) and that S3s overall seem to be quicker to apply ESP than S4s RS4s. I think If I could switch off the traction control element and leave the ESP on (as you can do in a BMW) the world would be a happier place.

Much as it irks me to concur with you but it does appear to be the traction control element that gets in the way during cornering...
