hello - any advice welcomed...

Post by martink » Sun Apr 12, 2009 7:51 pm

evening all
im looking to get either a B5 RS4 avant or a B6 S4 avant.
i appreciated the differences in engies and although id love the rs4 im fearful of major bills...

obviously i know any car can have its failures but in general with FSH is a 100k mile B5 RS4 generally ok?
i hear ridiculous prices for replacing turbo's etc...

how about the S4? whats the cambelt (or is it a chain) service interval? id like to know the score from you guys before some wise-guy salesman trys to bluff me with bull...

i'll be coming to S/RS ownership form a long line of jap cars, and also selling my westfield kitcar too. our first sudi is a A6 avant v6 tdi quattro tip and although its a measly 150 bhp its fun enough to drive, im just wanting the car to have more power...
i drove a B7 RS4 last week, a fiends up in scotland, he insisted i gave it some welly and i was amazed. thats what is spurring me on to buy an S or RS...
any advice welcome chaps

cheers

Hi Martin

I bought a 100k miler in November, i asked the same question about milage , As luck had it a forum member with knowledge(rs paul  )came to look at the car and ran Vag.com on it. I bought the car and have done 5k in it already, I want to keep it for ever.
had it checked at unit 20 and have had a couple of sensos and dv,s replaced. and a spring has split on the back offside. Spent about £600 which includes a full service. Added bonus of map and Milltek downpipes and cats already on so got a nice suprise at the rr 451bhp.
I would suggest a brake upgrade which I have on the way but everyday running costs seem quite reasonable.
do it you wont regret it.

Davey
thanks mate, i just know i'll love it and i suppose with any car its a gamble. i can handle reasonable running costs but i dont want a car that wants for new parts every 5 mins...
i had a DC2 integra that had done about 12 trackdays, 162k miles and it NEVER missed a beat. i only lifted the bonnet to change oil. i was spoilt with that car.
that dosnt mean i doubt the audi's its just that if something goes wrong on teh RS4 then i could be very expensive....

we'll see.

first things first, sell the westfield then test drive both RS4 and S4...
gonna go see an RS4 at harrogate, not far away and its in a dealer. on pistonheads and autotrader if anyones seen it

cheers
