audi tyre homologation

Post by Spacecowboy » Sat Mar 21, 2009 9:35 pm

I`m fucked up yesterday !!!!!!

I installed a new set of 255/35 zr 19 dunlop sport maxx gt tyres at a dealer...

I drove and think...that is not OK !!! it sounds not good...
the dealer did not checked the space inside...but I´m very shocked, that the dunlops are not homologated for the rs6...I never think about it, I only bought !
the dunlops are very fat....too FAT for the rs6 !!!!!!!!

here some pixs:

before I drove the pirelli rosso....only pirelli rosso, conti sport contact 2 and dunlop sp 9000 are made for the rs6...that sayed audi to me yesterday, after I stock my car there...

Daniel

Thats odd, I'm running Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta 275/30/19 on my car and it is virtually identical to yours (plus, blue pack, H&R coilovers). I don't seem to have any trouble.. maybe I should check just in case.. :?

Not all tyres are the same size ,,Some are wider than others. I had a set of 275 30 19's Falcons, I fitted them on my 9.5 mtm's and they were way too thin .!!!!
When i measured them they were only 235 wide !!!!!
I got a set of pilot sport's and they were 275 wide and a perfect fit ....

The Dunlops should be OK on the rear, but they will definitely foul on the front.

Ok Dan, took this pic when I was getting the Vreds. fitted recently. This is as good a picture as I've got regarding the tyres, but as you can see, the 275's aren't exactly 'monster truck'. I haven't noticed any rubbage thus far, but you've got me paranoid now!

Don't you just love the fact that the jacks, airlines and even the radial bands are all sprint blue? How cool is that!

Dan, they are 275/30/19.

1) Quite a few people on both this forum and other Audi forums were running them without issue (including people with lowered suspension).

2) They offer more grip.

3) They offer superior protection to the alloy and make kerbing a thing of the past.

4) They are cheaper than the equivalent 255 tyre.

But I will be checking mine tomorrow as soon as the sun comes up.. oh screw that, where's my torch..?!

Mo.

ok mo ! I understand your motivations...but I think the 255/35 is big to for a 9x19 wheel !!!

I never heard before, that somebody is chaning his tyres to wider tyres, but I can understand it !!!

I think your 275/30 are almost big/wide then my dunlops...I hope the best for you !
how long to you drive with these tyres ?
Best Regards
Daniel

MTM do some 20, 30 & 40mm wheel spacers.
Perhaps fitting a set of these would overcome the tyre rub no matter the width?

Just over 3 weeks. Surely I'd have noticed rubbing by now, but will still check them tomorrow just to be on the safe side.
