Fault code

Post by raceman » Tue Mar 10, 2009 9:39 pm

Hi all,
Just got my car back from Unit5 in kent, having had them try to get the engine mangement light to go out. Picked it up got half a mile it was back on.

It registers a fault code of 16985/p0601/001537 and can be cleared, however it appears again almost straight away, the reference i have found for this is at http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/16985/P0601/001537 although that car seems to run faultlessly.

I'm now terrified that i need some VERY expensive repairs, having just brought the car i'm probably panicking needlessly, but can anyone shed any light on this, and/or any possible solutions? If i do need a new ECU, how much does one of those cost?

P.S. Just had an N115 (evap) canister purge solenoid valve any ideas what that is, what it does, and or should i worry about that aswell.......lol

Many thanks in expectation and trepidation,

Paul.

Do you have a stock ecu or aftermarket tune? Looking on google it seems that APR in the US had a few issues with their software/chip.

If the ECU is OEM then it is going to be a new ECU. I presume that as you have just bought the car you have a warranty on it? If it is aftermarket then you need to go talk to the provider first.

I hope you get it sorted Paul.

Unfortunatly i have no idea what chip it has in it....lol

Is there an easy way to tell? Although i have just brought it, it was from an independant dealer, and hence the warranty is very very limited, I did realise this when i brought it, but it was reflected in the price.

Has been dealer serviced through it's life, and is low nileage, and drives perfectly, just the light is annoying, and i don't want to cause any damage, therefore i will sort if at all possible, and doesn't break the bank.

What sort of price is an ECU?

Paul.

Disconnect all power and then leave it for a few minutes and connect it up again. The battery is in the boot !

Works for 90 % of PC issues !!
RS6 C5 05 plate very tidy.

pull the ecu and see if you have a daughter board on the ecu - if you do, it will be that. Could be a ebay map?

ECU

Please excuse my ignorance, but where might i find the ECU? and will i have to take it apart to find out if it has a daughter board, and if it has, what do i do then?

If i disconnect the battery, will i need to recode the CDplayer stat nav etc?

Very very new to this car.....lol

Make sure you've got the code for the radio before you pull the plug!

I would have thought that someone would be able to flash the original software back onto your ecu. Even it if's not been modified, reflashing with the same software can sometimes help.

I think it's in the back of the engine bay under the cowling where the wipers are? I could be wrong. I believe it's a b@stard to open.

I think they're about £400. No idea how much to fit / program to the car though. That's got to be an Audi job, i would have thought.
