just remembered the guy on the dyno did say that the car was running a little lean toward the upper levels of the rev band. Could this be a maf sensor issue?

thanks for your advice on this thread cornish. i actually do appreciate your advice, along with all the other senior members of this forum. you know how hard it is to write what you think without sounding like a dick. always sounds better in your head. Its people like you that i will come to thank once the mighty 6 is back on its feet 100%.
tommorrow will be a maf sensor check, new dv's (forge or audi, i havnt decided), map check of the box / ecu and another road session at the end of the week. from what i have searched out on this forum the maf may well have gone down. runninglean on higher revs seems to be a fairly common symptom. can't be 100%, but once the boys do thier thing with the vag i'll be more clued up as to any issues. still strikes me as odd with the torque readings (without sounding like a repetitive tool). i'll keep you posted, so long as i havnt run myself over with frustration......

You'll be OK matey- and I don't know about senior- just care a lot about my car, and would hate to see anyone else have potential issues with their pride and Joy. I have spent an inordinate amount of time picking the brains of the person who really knows these cars, asked lots of inane questions whilst generally being a hinderance to him as he was working and I tried to understand the mechanics of something built in Germany, that was so much less than it was or could have been.
I tell you one thing- once it is running 100%- it will blow your socks off. I know mine were well and truly remeoved once mine was up to speed and running tickety boo!!
You could do a lot worse than speak to Grizzly, he is a really good guy, his RS6 is HIS pride and Joy, and has never once given me duff info- duff cups of tea and greasy Dolly parton bacon baps every time i visit but nver duff info or service!

Never be afraid to ask questions- if they are stupid (ask David K) we will take the piss, but good naturedly, but you will always get good info here.

cheers mate. i'll let you know how she fairs.
p.s, a bit off topic but does your missus get as upset with the 6 and the constant attention it requires as mine does? she says, 'you love it more than me!!!' it is true though, if i could have a second wife then i'd make an effort to marry the car. lol and when the wife is in it with you, it just aint the same. like a bad threesome where your not allowed to enjoy the other woman.

Right. Car went in for a health check today and the following happened. One of the maf's was ok but looked like it was distorting its readings higher up the rev range. The other maf was ko'd completely so solution was to have 2 new shiney ones fitted in place. DV's have been removed and are now awaiting replacement by some lovely forge models with 'yellow'springs (apparently they are the ones to get). Thanks Grizz for tempting me to get these babies. Good thing too is that Triton are paying for the dv's as they broke the top off one on saturday. They are also going to adjust the map following a scan of the reults from the rolling road (free of charge). I'll post some pics up when i get her back, and a new power result on saturday when they run it again. Im hoping with fingers crossed to see an improvement with 2 new mafs. If i don't, well i guess its back to scratching my head, and yours.

Well. I got my car back today and as expected, you were all correct. She was a bit poorly, but not that much.

The DV's were fitted as promised along with the new maf's.

Image

Straight away fueling was much better (blue line for current / red line for last week). With that im guessing the car is gonna be more economical too.
We still have 1 issue...
Image

Instead of getting yellow springs for the dv's as ordered we ended up with green ones and the car is now prematurely dumping boost. It'll be friday before the springs arrive... Good thing its an easy swap. We had it dyno'd anyway to see if there were any improvements even with the green springs and we were pleasantly suprised.

Image

Torque was down 8lb/ft to 527lb/ft but thats ok as its holding it higher for longer. As for power, we knew it wasn't going to make 500 because of the springs and lack of boost later in the rev range. But even with the wrong springs it was knocking ot 467.9bhp. Not sure what it'll do when the springs arrive but im confident that there will be substantial gains.

Correct me if im wrong but the car sounds like the new maf's have solved the problem.
