If you have your gearbox remapped by someone like MRC, then does the gearbox ecu have to be taken out and re-soldered back on ? or is the process the same as simply plugging into the main ECU port? (no removal and then soldering involved)

Thanks

No one in the world can flash a tiptronic ECU through OBD2 as far as I'm aware, I don't even think the ECU supports it...

As for how visible it is, I can solder so no one can see that the chip has been soldered before or not.

I didn't mean remapping the gearbox via the OBD2 port, I was asking if it was a similar process (via a similar plug in cable method)
Unfortunately or fortunately the only way the gearbox ECU can only be done via the classical chip tuning way, which is chip desoldered, read, programmed with a modified program and soldered back on the ECU. Just as well it's done this way, so "OBD2 only" tuners can't do anything about any tiptronic at all.

Just out of interest.......

How much does the gearbox remapping cost on top of the Stage 2 + engine remap if I were to have the whole lot done at the same time ?

Quick question from a Newbie! What is the Stage 2 Gearbox map? Does that mean you also do a Stage 1, or that this is your second or evolved map if you see what i mean!

Sorry Marcus, I missed your question... for tiptronic cars, the stage 1 simply involves raising the torque limiter so the gearbox doesn't hunt between 5th/4th gears, it is mandatory with a remap on any tiptronic vehicle. The stage 2 is more evolved with improved shift patterns, higher shift points, and allowing you to go into 5th gear at 30 mph.

hope this helps,
Mihnea
