A bit tappy this morning
morning guys, fired the six up this morning and for the first two minutes or so it was a bit tappety from the top end. Never done this before that Ive noticed? Anyway it drove ok and cleared up after a bit of driving and hasnt done it since. Guess I will have to see if it does in tomorrow? Anyone else had this and should I be worried? Checked the oil but have just had a service so its full and fresh! Cheers in advance all!

Hi Stu,
Mine does this everytime. IF I have left it for a week or so its really loud but only for a few seconds not 2 mins? My garage (VW/Audi specialist) says that its a common 'feature' of these hydraulic tappets when the engine gets older (80K on the clock) and nothing to worry about?! Its been doing it for probably over a year now and still runs like a dream and pulls like a train!!!!

Nothing to worry about and compared to a speed six TVR sewing machine, you'll be right at home..... No they all do it, especially in the cold weather, it'll go when its gets warmer, just the cossie designed heads.
Ebony Black Avant with Black Optics, Silver Leather and Piano Black/ Full Milltek - 100 CPSI cats and non-resonated! TVR for the summer..... and SL55 AMG just for the pose!!
From my point of view, I think the startup noises for a 'normal' and healthy car fit into 2 categories;
1) TAP-TAP-TAP-TAP-quiet-quiet-quiet-quiet-quiet - normally after a long break since last running, but just the sound of unlubed bearings having breakfast. Once fed, normal service resumes.
2) Light click/tap-click/tap-click/tap - for about 5 minutes. Sounds like badly adjusted tappets on a non-hydraulic valved engine. This is the secondry air pump doing what it is designed to do - pump lots of air into the post-combustion gases so that the CATs don't get poisoned by the rich startup mixture. It's just a fairly simply airpump thing (the black pot on the LHS of the engine as you peer in from the front, a round canister about 5" diameter-ish. This runs for a few minutes then stops. Heard and checked mine this morning.
