MILES PER TANK - does it annoy you how short the range is ??

Post by psg001 » Tue Feb 10, 2009 6:57 pm

Hi guys,

been looking on the forum for a little while. Did a search and the range of the car seems to be 200-250 miles on average. Do you get fed up filling the tank and spending half your time in the petrol station??

I've got an R32 at the moment and it has a 63 litre tank, pretty much the same as the B7 RS4. Now the R32 isnt economical, but I can still comfortably get a range of 300-330 miles per tank when driving around town and more like 360-380 on long range trips.

I think the RS4 is the perfect next car for me, but am worried it will piss me off because I'll be filling the tank up every 5 minutes! Its not the cost of running or filling the tank, just the inconvenience. Wish they fitted a bigger tank to the car.

Am interested to hear your thoughts / views. Once again, I'm not going on about the economy (its a V8 afterall!), just the range.

thanks.

P

I fill up 2-3 times a week and it can be a little irritating but the cars performance and sheer brilliance more than makes up for any inconvenience....

I get between 180 and 250 miles between fully filled and the fuel reminder illuminating......but, this is dependant on driving conditions.

Lowest I've had so far is 240, highest 320 - although the DIS was reading 5 mi left on the 320 :D

I'm with booski... the car more than makes up for it!

Had the same concerns coming from E46 M3. And whatever you do, you are going to be worse than the VW. M3 was regular 300 miles to tank on my standard drive (A + motorway + jams), RS4 is consistently 230-250 miles. Although if you want to make more miles, backing off (60-70 mph in 6th) you can soon claim that extra mileage. Best todate on RS4 is 296 miles on a tank. M3 was 354miles. Apart from that, the drive and sound will prove the point, without discussion.

thanks guys,

yeah, before I got the R32 people said that would only do 250 miles per tank! I guess I dont drive the car as hard as most of the guys on the R32oc as I get pretty good mileage, thats not to say I dont enjoy it when the road opens up!! My dad has an E46 M3, used that a lot, best I got out of a tank in that was 400 miles on the way to and from Cardiff. Will keep a close eye on the RS4 prices, test drove one and was very impressed. The R32 ticks all the boxes, as would the RS4 but would be just that bit better than the R32 (faster, more comfortable, better sounding) only negative is the shorter range, but like so many have said above, there are benefits to that V8!

I don't find the RS4 too bad. If you use the full 70 litre capacity in the tank I have had 350 miles out of the tank at a steadily rapid pace and anyone that knows me will advocate for my pace. Put it this way, I can do Newcatsle to London Regents Park and still have 60-65 miles on the DIS or Birmingham NEC and back on a tank plus £10.

Round town the range indeed drops to about 200-250.

trust me mate once u have the car ur not bothered about the inconvenience
i love driving while in sport mode - the rumble of the engine is awesome!!

long range trips, if u stick at about 80mph u will easily get 300miles out of a tank
in the town, i am lucky if i get 200!!!

I get between 250 and 400 miles per tank - no the range doesn't bother me at all, because the driving experience more than makes up for it! A fuel stop is just another excuse to hear that V8 revving to 8000+rpm as you accelerate away!

Pretty consistent 280-300 a tank for me. Not ideal, but IMO literally the only negative aspect of the car - the rest makes up for it a hundred-fold!

when you get one and drive her psg001 i think the size of the tank will be the last thing on your mind. i think i get about 260ish to a tank, mainly local stuff.
