How much more noise inside?

Post by Daveperc » Mon Jan 12, 2009 5:06 pm

At the MOT last week they mentioned that the existing (standard) exhaust is starting to crack near one of the mounts - so I guess I'll need a new exhaust in due course. Clear opportunity to upgrade, but.....

....just how much noisier (inside the car) is the full Miltek when cruising on m'way etc??

I already find the car quite noisy when just cruising, and don't want to completely lose the ability to converse whilst driving.

Thoughts welcomed!

Dave

Not much difference at all. i have a non res milltek, and no cats at all. My wife and I and our 16 month old daughter regularly travel to cornwall, and at motorway speeds, and even upto the high end of acceptable speeds on the roads its fine. You only tend to hear the sex when you give it over 5-6k rpm, then its feckin ace, and who wants to talk then anyhoo!

Ever sat in the back and let the missus drive, helps when you need a driver after a drink or two  , have to say the non-res sounds miles better in the back, you'd be surprised!

Oh, and if you are wondering about noise levels, then non-res may not be for you, but find someone near with a milltek and go for a volume test :D

i found even the res version a bit boomy at normal levels (1.2-2.5k) in town
good for short runs but can get tiresome after long drives.

I have to say that now the noise is even better, what with no cats you hear the turbos spool up like a banshee, the rumble and roar the whine and howl and th sound of uncontrolable giggling is priceless in my opinion..... Even the Waff likes the overrun pops and bangs and makes her come over all unnessascary!

Thanks guys - both those above and those who pm'd me.

One of the beauties of the beast is its vertsatility - I love the fact that I can "play" (when safe, appropriate etc) and more noise would be more fun, but the fact is that in time terms at least, the car spends the majority of life with me and the missus, fully laden, flogging up and down crowded motorways where the noise will be just a distraction and annoyance!

Anyone in my area got a non res system I can hear from the inside??

Dave

What's the view on how to create biggest gains with the LOWEST increase in noise? Full/cat back etc...?

Cheers

I got a cat back non resonated milltek from Grizz, and would recommend it. A slight increase in noise when pootling around. It is louder when you introduce the shoe but not overly so.
Hoping to get over to Grizz to have a look at my cats in the near future
and should sound even better then.

Cheers,
John
