Honeycomb Grill, and worried about the engine.

Post by The_Kid » Thu Nov 13, 2008 11:44 pm

Hi,

I bought an 2006 B7 S4 a couple of months ago. The car only has one S4 badge (on the boot) with nothing on the grill and no V8 badge on the front wings. One thing I have noticed though is that I have a honeycomb grill, and i've not seen any other S4's with this. Is this unusual?

More importantly, when the engine is idling and the bonnet up, do other owners hear much noise from the engine? I had the bonnet up for the first time whilst the engine was running yesterday, and there was more of sort of tapping/ticking noise than I anticipated.

Many thanks

PS Loving driving the car. Two great road trips in it so far!

I would have a guess at the ticking noise on idle being the injectors

Try getting someone to rev the car slightly with you by the engine bay, and see if it goes away, and then comes back at idle again

I think the honeycomb grille "if" with the audi rings is an accessory.

Many thanks Virdee, the grill does have the Audi rings. I'll check out the engine sound this weekend.

Also, I had it shipped from UK to Guernsey last week and when I took delivery the steering felt as if it had a bit of "friction" and the power steering seemed to make a bit more noise than usual. It seems to have gone back to vitually normal now though. Any thoughts?

Many thanks.

Just check the power steering fluid level once, and see if the problem still persists.

Grille must be the accessory item.....looks sweet from the pics I have seen

Hi, yes the grille looks very cool. And as there are no other S markings on the front, it surprises a lot of people. But I didn't know it was an extra/accessory that you could spec?

Sterring is still a problem. Feels a bit heavy when first starting and makes much more of a whine than it should. Fluid level is fine though. It's booked in for a look on Thursday, so should know more then.

Cheers

I took my S4 to the Audi garage today about the steering which was starting to whine even more. They had a 15min ook and couldn't find anything wrong! However they did tell me the fluid was down a bit and sometimes this caused air to be sucked into the power steering system, which cuases the whineing. They've topped it up with fluid, and told me to come back if the problem persists. To be fair, it does seem fine now!
