Brake pads - for goodness' sake
Sorry to post on a subject that has been on here a few times...
Am wanting to put in some enhanced pads - not greatly due to lack of performance, but because i know that he stock pads will shag the discs when they're worn to or near the wear limit.
So: EBC YellowStuff - ordered and sent back - don't actually fit - not made for RS4 yet and website part listings are wrong. Came with pad wear indicators and rivetted shim backplates - all looked promising! 175 Quid.
Ferodo DS2500: ditto. Will fit but no shim backing so (because it wraps around the end of the pads) they rattle with SEVERAL mm gap i the calliper. Sent back. 280 quid.
Pagid RS15 seems to be the BEST option but do they actually fit PROPERLY? AND has anyone got them for less than 400 QUID!!!!!????

If your are having trouble finding a replacement pad and are only changing for the safety aspect, just have a good look at the discs each time you wash the car etc You will be able to spot any potential damage and change to new pads way before the discs go past the point of no return as long as you monitor regularly.

I agree, but i am aware of pads which offer greater bite which i would trade up for. They have a higher friction co-eff when cold and hot whic is attractive.
Mind you at the prices of the pagids, i could afford to wear the stock ones less than half way down before replacing them!!!!

I have Ferodo DS2500. Superb pad with great initial bite.
I had no issues fitting them including the shims.

I fitted ebc redstuff pads 4 months ago,they were a bit tight on the fit between the pad cut out and the locating bar so a few strokes with a round file on each pad solved this. Took a while to bed in then a few days on the isle of man proved them to be up to the job in hand.and so far (3k approx)

They can operate at constant temp around 800degC with max of 950degC - IIRC.
They have much higher friction all through the speed range and the more heat you have in them the more they bite. I have not found them particularily agressive on the discs either but I'm sure they would be under track type driving.
Downside is that they can squeak if not re-bedded every now and again and the brake dust. It is bad, bain of my life, the wheels require a clean every week.

Steve (sumdy) - the EBC pads you've used are the INCORRECT fitment for the vehicle.
Yes, you CAN file them down but if you have an accident and in the (VERY) unlikely event that someone were to check, you'll be in trouble. I can see that they will work and for a press on driver they'll not likely rust into the callipers.
For the absolute avoidance of doubt EBC do NOT manufacture pads for the front of the B7 RS4 yet.
THe INCORRECT front pads are numbered DPx1513 where x is 3 for RedStuff and 4 for YellowStuff. They fit the Brembo RS6.
The CORRECT, but not yet manufactured, front pads will be DP41936R for YellowStuff (which fir the RS4 and R8)

Sumdy - I'm sure they will be OK, but just thought fair to point out the facts. The problem, to be fair to the resellers, is that someone in EBC has provided the wrong parts code so people are therefore using it in good faith on their websites.
Worst thing is that they look 99.999% OK, until you try to fit them. The difference is tiny - it's 0.25mm in the size of the cutout you mentioned you had to file out. I faced same and initially thought scraping the paint off would do it, but they are really too small. Problem with filing it is that, aside having to do 8, they'll rust and this may make them bind. Worst case is if someone 'taps' them in which might just happen - in which case they're stuck fast.
Having checked Ekta, the RS6 and the RS4 Audi parts number are in fact different (whereas the R8 is exactly as RS4).
All a bit irritating, as EBC don't reckon they'll have the right ones on sale for 8 months.
