Charged Pipe Leak - Help!
Charged Pipe Leak - Help!
Just discovered the following leak and wondered whether anybody had any experience in fixing it:
Look below the oil dip stick. The leak is the O ring (Part No. 078133148D ?) into the intake air duct. There seem to be two hexagonal bolts (top and bottom), however the bottom ones are missing on my car (on the left side as well). Wonder if the dealer forgot when doing the timing belt change.
Any help would be much appreciated.

RE: Charged Pipe Leak
I "think" they only have one alan bolt anyway.
I think this is a stupid idea, and should have used 2.
One of mine doesn't line up 100%, although it may be me being anal!
Luckily mine don't leak, but when I bought the car, and it had already had the t-belt done at Audi, I saw that the technician had used a smear of clear silicone on the outside of the pipe, like where yours is leaking.
When I did the t-belt, I cleaned it all up, and touch wood, have no sign of oil, especially not like that.
The pipe doesn't have n flex in it, and with these charge pipes being hand made (i assume), they haven't accounted for any variations in the manufacturing.

RE: Charged Pipe Leak
Mine leaked on the opposite side. Bitch to get off to replace o ring. As Virdee says, only one bolt and mine doesn't line up either!

<beep> innit! I've been thinking about getting them welded at work. Trouble is, it'll be even harder to get off!Virdee Autos wrote:Wahey....i'm not alone! I thought it was only my car!

RE: Re: RE: Charged Pipe Leak
Yeh I think those 2 charge pipes are hand made, but don't take into account the metal adapter just before the throttle body
I think you'd have to take off the rubber pipe going to the intercooler, and then you may be able to push it out of the metal adapter. Going to be tight for sure.
The Y-Pipe is definitely hand made, as mine has red marker marks, where the welds are.

RE: Re: RE: Charged Pipe Leak
Thanks - much appreciated. I actually feel better about the one bolt only, because the bottom one would be impossibleto get at. Funny thig is that ErWin(Audi) shows two bolts(1,2). I think that loosening the rubber pipe to the intercooler might help(4). There are also two more bolts (3,5) that fix the pipe to the engine. See below:

Yep, and IIRC, the pipe on the LHS also has a spacer/bush, so be careful not to loose this when opening it

First visit to MRC threw up the same problem, same side as mine after a pressure test- Doug didn't seem particularly surprised so I assume its not unheard of.
It did take a couple of attempts to sort- a new O ring didn't work but good smear of silicone did- seems to be the default fix......
Cheers

All the fasteners should be fitted including the one thats a pig to fit,if not it may well overload the top one as its only into a plastic camcover,it will shear the casing and the first thing you will know about it is when its then sheared the remaining alloy lug off the top of the pipe and you loose all boost, mine wore a hole through the bottom flexi link hose before it sheared the top lug, overall if it isnt fitted get it fitted the bill isnt funny, theyre only missing because mechanics carnt be arsed to re fit them on cambelt changes
