rear shock exploded!!!!!!!!!!

Post by APM » Mon Jul 14, 2008 10:46 pm

 on saturday 12th i went over a speed hump one of those sharpy rubber ones, the car was noticeably clinky and clanky sounding,on checkingthe rear o/side shock, and suspension totally covered in fluid,it has also dripped on the drive. i thought they just leaked ,this one looks like its exploded, anyway its booked in next monday with APS to have kwv3's fitted,so no more DRC,i was going to be selling the car,so lets see what difference the kwv's make,i may reconsider. :DI suppose i've been lucky with 83k miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why put kw's in. Maybe an A4 but not the RS.
I keep mentioning this but the Stasis Ohlins setup is the best setup you can buy. I have compared in various VAG cars. Yes the cost is more but it is so much better. Had another friend finnally listen and put them in his A4. His comment was that I didnt exagerate enough for just how good the suspension is. I was dissappointed a bit with the handling and thinking of selling the car also. Now I absolutely love it again.
And no I dont have any affiliation with Stasis.

It's not just a bit more expesive though Lancia, it's a fair bit more expensive. For me, if I do have to replace the DRC it will begrudgingly given how much I paid for the car to be good in the first place, I don't want to be spending heaps more to make it what it should be.

KW's have a good reputation and have been widely used so there is also a minor familiarity factor in there.

the stasis set up is £1950, now that is a very good price and im sure you could get 10% off, even if you could not £1500 for the kwv against stasis ohlins for £450 more, that is 2k well spent and worth every penny

PG appreciate the comments but we have tried all sorts here including kw's and I am just saying it is chalk and cheese in the difference. Ride and Handling. Check the spring rates for example.

I just know the first person other than myself to use them will be absolutely wrapped and be on here saying how good they are. So as like me you figured stop bothering with the DRC issue heres your chance!

While your at it seriously consider installing the MTM Camber bushes or contact Fulcrum suspension here in Australia as they have a complete kit of offset bushes to give 2 to 3 neg camber as well as bushings to increase the castor so the car tracks straight. Im not a total expert but love the way the car drives now just with that.

Will get some pics when its in on monday,i struggled with a torch and mirror to see it as the car is low, who's paying £1500 for Kw's,give APS a ring they're less than that.I have gone for Kw's as they are least affected by salt and corrosion etc, plus they're a good price.you may be right Lancia but with the potholes, speedhumps and crap they put on the roads i'll stick to Kw,s.

Sounds like the same people who do your roads do the ones here.

Fortunately we dont have the salt issue either. Salt and that white stuff you call snow and ice we never have to deal with. Must be interesting dealing with winter.

Atleast youll no longer have to deal with the DRC issue!

:) The annoying thing is the car has done 83kmiles with no issues it was last serviced in march, then the speedhump,as its out of warranty its going to an independant to have the drc totally replaced,i haven't even bothered getting prices from audi, they probably wouldn't be able to do anything for months any way.I have no faith in letting them near my vehicle. For those still with warranty you don't really have a choice and in a year or so's time,i think the independants will be even buisier when most warranties are out.Shame really but audi seem to be very good at shooting themselves in the foot.
will post the results of the works on monday.
