Brake Disc Ware

Post by PLG » Mon Jun 16, 2008 7:16 pm

I too have suffered problems with the Shocks (see my message on the subject). I have been told that the front discs are 85% and 70% worn after 30,000 miles. Audi's technical department say this is good for the vehicle. Has anyone else had replace the front discs and if so at what milage.

A bloody sight earlier than that I'm afraid. 10,500 miles on the fronts, with NO track use. You have done VERY well!

Just slightly surprised that your rears (if they're the 70%-ers) are that worn compared to the fronts, but again I would love to get that mileage from any discs...

E39 540i - 11,500 miles and done under warranty ("never seen 540i discs buckle like that, Sir")
E46 M3 - 13,000 miles not under warranty ("wear and tear I'm afraid, Sir")
E36 M3 - 14,000 miles (ditto)

I have just changed my front discs and pads with 20k miles on the clock, including 12 laps of the 'Ring and track day at Castle Combe. Discs were shagged (cracks from the holes and vibrations when braking) but amazingly the pads still had a bit of life in them.

What's a stealer charge for fitting new disks? Mines' in for it's first service next week and it'd be useful to know up front what the cost would be if they say they need changing (although I hope they don't!)

Wouldn't be surprised if a dealer was charging £1300! My dealer wanted £950 to supply and fit new discs and fit the pads I supplied. In the end I sourced my own discs (£500) and pads (£175) and fitted them myself. Easy job, all done in about 1.5 hours.
