Went to MRC, left my car to be fixed ............. :)

Post by oliew » Fri Apr 18, 2008 1:18 am

.....and drove home temporarily with over 500hp!

I had to pay Doug a visit as my front suspension was really clunking badly.. once up on the ramps we diagnosed the bottom arm driverside to be REALLY badly worn at least a cm of play moving in/out by hand!!! i thought it may of been the top arms last week so we didnt order any bottom arms in!

Dilema... do i drive home 100 miles with a bottom arm ready to fall out?!? only to drive it back at the weekend to fix it.. or do i get the train and not be able to drive to work all week???
...............

Solution -
Borrow Dougs Noggy S4!! 520+bhp of mental MRC action!

SPEC:

MRC FMIC, MRC Tubular manifolds, MRC k04 Hybrid turbos, MRC intake pipes, MRC Headgaskets, RS4 Y pipe, RS4 MAF, RS4 airbox, LWFW/MRC Clutch kit, Exhaust with no cats, injectors, fuel pump etc..

So.. my thoughts about this car after 4 days of driving it.. coming from ~350bhp (4.7 sec fats) fastish k03'd S4 and comparing this to it when i drove it in 2007 for a few days here and round Nurburg in 440bhp form and also spending a few days with Lucas in his mental 650bhp rs4 and doing 202mph ;) so im not jumping from a std car into 500hp for the first time..........
I can honestly say this car really is mind blowingly awesome!! the handling is so tight, the ride is really very good for how stiff it is! Even with 19's like my car, and the stiffest ARB's with stiffer MRC brackets and pirelli Pzeros on at the moment it feels tighter.. nippier turn in and much more GRIP, bucket loads of it! switch the ESP off and the feel of the quattro scrabbling for grip with 520lb/ft coming out of corners is immense! No Understeer! which mine has LOADS of! grr now i have to upgrade arbs! :) the Tyres i thought were great! but apparently not as grippy as the tyres he had on before?!? lol. when you get the thing in 3rd or 4th the speedo just rises like a stopwatch on acid! Its So planted on B roads at high speeds, miles better than my S4 with h&r's and stock arbs, mines the same height lowered but with out the arbs it makes a hellva difference for the stability.

The power when it comes in has a big kick once it gets past 3k it holds to redline and chucks you back in the seat to 7400rpm with no running out of puff! the Exhaust note really howls but i found that my Milltek with 1 box , rs4 cats and no precats was boomier driving round!!!! once you floor it this exhaust is louder but really made me think..

The Interior has Carbon trim, Recaro Pole position all trimmed in black/blue alcantara? really comfy, spending 8hrs driving to germany i knew these seats were really very good! and would seriously consider them in mine if i didnt have the rs4 interior! the wheel is r32 and much thicker than mine, great feel.

Then onto the brakes!? Rs6 brakes with Ferodo pads, drilled rs4-b7 breaks at rear. Immense stopping power no fade... and perfect balance, something i really have to look at over my b5 rs4 brakes!!

Conclusion?..

I am now getting K04 upgrade, ARBS, FMIC, the lot... brakes when budget allows!!! should see me getting to this spec.. its highly addictive! Driving this "courtesy car" really puts a smile on my face whenever i hit the loud pedal! specially with that crazy exhaust!!! ill be sad to give it back! 8)

Thanks for loaning me your car doug !!!

Yeah - having driven Wee Doog's car myself I can say it has sublime handling - dunno what his secret is (but I wish he would tell us!)

The dark art of marketing. Let your customers try something better in the hope they'll decide to buy. Now when you get a courtesy car from a stealership, what do they loan you? An A2 1.4TDi or maybe a 2.0 TDi A4. Seems like MRC have pitched it just right.

I havent driven that car for a while now, but the last time i went in it is was fast (oct 07), since then its even faster.

Handles really well, and those seats despite having about 1" of foam are really comfy even on long journeys.

Nice car IMO, whens it for sale mate?
