My thoughts exactly. Is it now possible to actually possible with the new part to see where it was leaking from before?S4INT wrote:Well - that's my vote changed! Had it confirmed today that the car needs both front dampers replaced and the central valveWas also informed that the damper has been revised with a better gaiter design to try and keep the dirt out. (or the oil in....)
BTW, for the record, car has sports suspension plus.

I would recommend everyone to have their shocks inspected for leakage. My car is a 57 plate, delivered new at the end of Sept. As the gearbox was notchy and the clutch had an inconsistent biting point, I booked it in to the supplying steeler and asked them to check the DRC for leaks while it was in. The car has only covered 3300 miles and was not suffering from any of the DRC failure symptoms that others have experienced such as knocking. So when the steeler told me two front shocks and control valve needed changing I was surprised. They also replaced a gearbox pipe and wheel valves. The car now drives so much better than the day it was delivered.
Thanks Saint.
I actually got a call yesterday (but only after 5 calls to the dealer over the course of the last 6 days just chasing a response) to confirm that the parts will be available this week, but they can't supply a curtousy car until 6th May! They need the car for a couple of days to carry out the work.
They are fitting new front shocks and valve, and a clutch pipe.
After fitting the new shocks is it normal practice for the car to have a full geo check? I would have thought it not possible to replace the shocks without upsetting the geo. Should I be requesting this or will it be done regardless?
Still a bit miffed that it has taken them over a month to get the parts and it is going to be another 3 weeks before they can get fitted...........why are all these dealers just so <beep>?

I don't know about the Geo, but I'd like to know before mine goes in next week!jackWood2 wrote:They are fitting new front shocks and valve, and a clutch pipe.

What's the issue with the clutch pipe? I've noticed that a few people have had these replaced under warranty.

Clutch pipe was 2006 cars ... maybe a few slipped through ... old issue .... was reported on forum ...
Unless something is taken off that has an adjustment to camber or castor ... then the geo should not be altered by a shock change ..... only shock length can cause problems if it is radically short

Isn't normal camber adjustment made by altering the position of the top of the strut where it attaches to the car body? The top of the shock IS the top of the strut isn't it? Certainly it is on the Porsche. I thought it would be the same here. I can't see how they can remove the shock without upsetting the geo.
The clutch pipe is because very very occasionaly after a right proper thrash and quick heal'n'toe down-changes the clutch is sometimes very reluctant to return to the top and goes mushy. At it's worst, you have to hook your foot under the peddle and lift it back up. It mechanically engages fine, I think, but the peddle just doesn't come up. They knew what it was when I explained it, so I musn't be the first to complain to the dealer with it.

Just checked mine and the high pressure pipe that fits at the lower end of the strut is dry. No bumps or crashes so I must be okay, for the time being.Andyuk911 wrote:Clutch pipe was 2006 cars ... maybe a few slipped through ... old issue .... was reported on forum ...

Just had a read of the rs6 drc issues and one of the guys spoke to Mr Hicks who said that up untill May 08 the dealers wont have a re pressurisation tool so the central valve needs replacing at present. Mt dealer quite clearly said to me that fitting shocks takes a while as re pressurissing can be tricky and that they had done loads.
Im a bit confused with this as I read that the system works diagonally so am i correct in thinking that if say your front right goes you loose pressure on rear left so they are the 2 to change.
finally are the same parts needed on the rs6 as on the rs4?
Any techies out there who can shed some light.

RE: DRC II Notes and Fault Finding.
Shocks and pipes can be repressurised now, but the NEW tool that will allow the recharging of the CENTRAL VALVES will not be available till May.
Just wanted to be clear on that!

RE: DRC II Notes and Fault Finding.
Hi, I have just gone through the complete forum, and I think that I hav figured out the new problem with my car also. I am hearing a thump or a knock when going over the bumps.....at 1st I had thought that maybe it was because I had some loose bits and bats in the boot, but after clearing it out, I am still getting the knocks.
I have just had the track arms replaced due to the knocking I was getting with the full turn steering locks, now this......In my last audi a8, the complete suspension was replaced. I have an rs4 avant, with 13k on the clock, mostly motorway mileage.
Is the suspension replacement covered under warranty?
Thanks
Shaan
