Blower you are clearly an educated and intelligent individual capable of informed and socratic argument. Have you ever considered that the bible, New and old testament might just be a collective work of fiction that many people chose to believe because it appeared to both convincing and plausible. consider for a moment how many people believed that the Da Vince Code was a work of fact!!

What does it say about emigration and applications for visas?
well the ADVICE and INSTRUCTION is pretty hard to follow..
always check the WARNINGS when travelling abroad
sit on a cushion for COMFORT and HOPE you hips fit in the seat
make CORRECTION when going in the wrong DIRECTION
dont rely on all PREDICTION and PROMISES as travel companys can get it wrong
if you get lost you will receive HELP IN TIME OF NEED
and GUIDENCE to the correct destination although LIFE'S PROBLEMS can get in the way..
a KNOWLEDGE of JESUS CHRIST mite help cos he knows all the best places to get cheap food...
and once your at your new town there's HOPE FOR THE FUTURE,PIECE OF MIND that there'll be plenty new things to do and an assurence of ETERNAL LIFE in them new sho'e you just bought...
so all in all a great travel guide...

I don't want to seem like a 'fence sitter', but i think the reason we are having trouble deciding what to do in the future regarding places /countries to live in is that we are/have become victims of the system and find ourselves to a greater or lesser degree in a 'comfort zone' .

Yes we all love to slag the sytsem off on a daily basis and somehow think that maybe things will get better and that what goes around comes around, blah, blah blah, but we do now frequently look at our real term options and making a decision of this scale is not easy.

I have my own bussiness which is/has been sussessful and allows me and my wife to have what we would call a 'reasonable lifesyle', she has a job which she 'tolerates' and between us we can have holidays and change the car etc within reason when we feel like it, but we do work very hard for this and consiquently enjoy the good times when we can.

So for us the big question is do we want to start over again?
I am going to be 40 next year,my wife is a few years younger and 'sometimes' the thought of moving out to another country fills us with dread with the reality that we would need to start a fresh, then on other days (perhaps when you have had a crap day or the news/media have filled your head with more crap statistics) it would seem like a walk in the park!

Either way we had a great honeymoon last year travelling round NZ (Both Islands) and can honestly say that if/when the day comes to move on ( having been fortunate enough to have seen a bit of the world) our No 1 choice would be NZ.

I guess all we are waiting for is a gust of wind to blow us one side of the fence or another.

Some good points there Phil.

I think everyone will have their own 'comfort zone' and it's always an easy option to stick with what (or where) you know. Similarly, there's always the 'grass is greener' syndrome.

I spend a lot of time working in Florida, 'the sunshine state', where they have 2 seasons ('January and Summer'!), lower taxes, half price cars, decent roads, the 'big outdoors' (on the same scale as Aus), the list goes on, but I don't think I could ever live there permanently, and it's always nice to "get back home"...

philws4.
We're a bit older than you, but asside from that you describe exactly our situation too.
We've actively looked at living in Canada, even to the extent that a house and a place of work was lined up.
We have recently been looking at additional properties in France, Germany, Italy and Spain. We just can't see ourselves living at any of them, and none would make us sell up and totally leave.
it almost seems like moving abroad to retire and pass time. Trouble is, to pass time I need a certain level of income to enjoy myself with the right selection of toys :D

Our decision has been that we will continue to swallow the cr@p that comes our way, but continue to reap the rewards that go with it. Currently the cr@p has not exceeded our tolerance levels.

Lets face it, the only reason we all moan about things so much is because we care about them, and don't want to see them all changed (whether its over population, new housing estates, lack of jobs/shops/pubs/schools, etc etc etc)
As you say woody, better the devil you know...
Too many toys, not enough time

Good extension of the analogy Phil, but perhaps Woody's "better the devil you know" is more appropriate to the way this thread has gone off topic

Was God an astronaut?

So, in an attempt to allow this thread to retain its original Off Topic intent, I have started a new one for those interested in pursuing the religion debate, here : http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... c&p=258846

Awesome! I've just got back from a long weekend break .... and this is still going! Good work chaps

The most important point I need to address first is: I AM NOT A BLOODY IT MANAGER!!!!!

Second is this: Blowers comment on the law of angular momentum/2 planets spinning in an opposite direction to the others in this solar system is possibly the funniest I've ever read. Blower - planets did not just 'pop out' of the big bang - planets form from the left-over material of star formation (dust aggregation and accretion, gravity etc) - and takes place hundreds of millions of years after the infant star is born. Some of them bash into each other and are destroyed (the moon in orbit around our planet is the remnant of a planet that whacked earth about 4 billion years ago) - some get their axis tilted, some just spin the "other way". The point about the big bang and angular momentum is totally irrelevant - the big bang was an exploding singularity (a zero point) - NOT a spinning thing that threw things out. The big bang occurred ~14 billion years ago (latest estimate) - star and planet formation didn't occur until several billion years later.

As for calling me "evo-boy" - WRONG AGAIN Blower: I drive an Audi S4.

Blower - you do make me laugh. As said by others, you are clearly quite intelligent, so the fact that you believe all this rubbish beggars belief, it really does.

P.S. I really don't want to be a bad-boy forever - I guess that naughty old Satan makes me do it. Blame him!
