Excuse me sir, is this your car?

Post by Pig » Sat Mar 22, 2008 6:32 pm

Was in london for lunch today. On the way back i stopped for petrol and was met by 2 undercover police officers.

Was in the RS4 and they asked if it was my car. I explained it was my wifes. They told me they saw me in it earlier that day and had given all the local police my reg. as they suspected it stolen. (they have seen a trend of young white men steeling RS4's and RS6's in the area)
They knew the car lived in essex and had asked a local policeman to go to my house to make sure it wasnt stolen.

I gave them my drivers liscence and asked for another look at his ID as he one was taking down the details, the other was chatting to my wife.

Wasnt given any paperwork so rung the police on the way home to check they were genuine and it all checked out ok :)

They were in a toyota prius with a camera in the back.

Just to add the 2 guys were very nice and professional and im really impressed that they are trying to prevent crime like this.

Oh and im a young looking 22 year old BTW

Good to hear they're keeping their eyes open... I'd be happy to answer the same questions.

just as well they were genuine!!

dred the thought of giving all your details to car thieves with false police ID

doesnt bear thinking about does it!!

so the police do sometimes turn out good for a change instead of being a low down life with a speed gun sat in a hedge as we saw today on our way home!!

Got stopped for similar reasons last week in my RS4 in Hertfordshire ..... again was very impressed by the fact that the police were actually looking out for thefts of cars of this type. My stop was a little more easily explained though - about 2 in the morning and they followed me for a mile or two first (me desperately trying to keep exactly to the speed limit). A proper panda car, not plainclothes. Finally they pulled me over and asked me my name and address, before letting me on my way. They just explained that they wanted to check out a high value car driving around late at night. Why not, I thought?
