Oettinger Tuning

Post by Clem » Thu Jul 10, 2003 5:21 am

Has anyone had the full engine upgrade from oettinger? Was thinking about the 221kw upgrade, which includes the chip, ecu, exhaust including headers and turbo.

Any comments????

Thanks Riz,
i am not too sure about the costs of the MTM chip cause i am in Australia, MTM and Oettinger are really only the dependable types of companies with knowledge.

Has anyone done a comparison?? or are most of the higher end chips designed to do the same thing, so it really doesnt matter which chip so lon as it is a reputable brand?

cheer, thanks again

for high end tuning i`d say MTM are the ones to go for....... ABT are good but the costs are usually more. Im not 100% on the tuning area but i would say visit the mtm site and see what they offer......... i think the max package they do puts out 376bhp really depends how far you are willing to go!

With the MTM ones you get loads of ooooompf and good 0-62`s but i would seriously consider cruitial parts upgrades to handle more than 300bhp.......

Hi Clem, welcome to the board!

I'm a fellow Sydney Audi S3 driver also, fantastic cars aren't they? What color is yours? I may have seen it around... I drive a 02 Imola Yellow S3

Regarding tuning, stay away from MTM. The local tuner, Milan has no clue and has blown more S3's up then tuned them, I've heard too many bad stories and not enough happy customers.

My advice,is to take part in the Groupbuy I am organising with Guy harding fro hardingeuropean.com for the new Direct Port APR software, which if you have the 165kw engine will give you 195kw & 360nm. Put on the Hitech exhaust (which I have) and your around 205-210kw depending on your engine. Further, you can try the Oettinger turbo inlet for decreased lag, but really its difficult to get 300hp as the K04 Turbo is only rated to produce about that much power, anything over and your looking at a bigger turbo upgrade and mega loads of $.

I find Oettinger tuning, over priced and poor value for money. I Had a Oettinger chip in my Golf GTi 1.8 , although good, it was VERY expensive and didnt offer software programing, security, cruise control functions and multiple programs that the APR offered, although Oettinger may be reknown as being a good and prestigous tuner, they are overpriced and offer poor value for money... Look around, there is better gear out there!

If youd like to know alot more, and have a chat, my msn is dastrix5@hotmail.com

There are many options, in the way of exhausts, chips, filters the lot! It really depends on how much you want to spend!

Hope that helps
Kris

ps: please do not be swayed by the Oettinger brainwashing that you see on some messageboards

Powerchip are the worst!! Give Guy harding from Harding European in QLD a call, he has a agent in sydney also (Derek from European Autotech) , they can hook you up with APR's new Direct Port chipping which is all done electronically.

Say Kris sent you..

You want go far wrong with Oettinger they seem to be the most respected tuners out of all the german tuners in germany, they also will honour your warrenty if the engine goes bang due to engine mods they have fitted. They have a whole section on ther website about it.

By the sound of things reguarding MTM it seems like a problem with the MTM dealer rather then the actual MTM product. If u are looking to get at getting 300bhp+ APR isnt your route i dont think they offer turbo upgrades for the S3. MY choose would be MTM or Oettinger both are very good.

Have had both MTM in '00 S3 and now Oettinger in '02 S3.

Same price via dealer with full warranty retained on car.

Both VERY quick - minimal difference in times.

MTM had 250hp/350NM. Very peaky boost which gives hard kick when coming on to boost (Isuspect they briefly overboost to do this). Prob a little less lag than the Oettinger. At 8 months age engine started burning oil and making piston-slap noise. After much tooing and froing new short block fitted under full warranty - well done Audi NZ. Dunno if MTM was a cause or just made it more obvious but I do worry about the over-boost thing and Audi New Zealand have switched from MTM to Oettinger for their dealer supported upgrades.

The Oettinger chip is very different in character to MTM and very like normal feeling just stronger. 250hp/370NM flat from 2500-5000rpm. Much smoother and seems to pull harder longer although acceleration splits show very little difference.

FWIW
