Wax: wish one is the best......

Swissoll "Saphir" is excellent for relative novice application (like me), you've got to know your stuff with Swissoll "Best of Show"

Been using Swissoll or now called Swissvax for years now, its great stuff and not that tricky to use, just dont need as much as you think... not trying to teach anyone to 'suck eggs' but getting the paint prep right first makes all the difference, wash, clay, clense then wax if you want top results...

Is this sort of wax really that good in comparison to what I would get down my local auto bits place?
Do they go further, for instance, would a pot of this last me a long time and give better results?
I normally use the 3 stage Meguires stuff which is not far of the price of some of the entry level waxes Swissol do, but those bottles will last me probably about the years worth of polishing on the car and bike and does the job of the prep, polish and waxing. I occassionally do a quick wax using Mer as a top up now and then when the weather is a bit crap.

I wax my car very regularly, I rarely do the whole thing just each week as I wash do various panels in rotation staying on top of it... I had one pot of wax last me 4 years and 3 cars, I have barely made a dent in the current one which I have had for 18 months.. a little goes a long way with these waxes, too much wax applied almost looks like swirl type scratches and will take forever to 'buff' still wont work out as cheap as something from Halfords, but it does last a very long time and the results are always worth it IMHO

I just took the plunge and spent £90 on cleaning stuff that reading on Detailing World seems to be recommended.
Gone for the Collinite 476 which I will use as a top coat with my existing Megs 3 stage stuff to prep it.
Load of proper polishing and drying cloths too, some snow foam for my Gilmour gun (which I have not really used yet since I bought it last year), some Megs APC and Super Degreaser to do the engine and wheels, and some other odds and sods.
Will see what I have left over and may go for one of the machine polishers later in the month as it would be nice to do it proper.
Think I may even break out the vax and give the carpets a good going over too.
I had to, I haven't really had a good look over the car during the daylight for a while and got a chance to today when I finished the ABS controller replacement. The missus got a right telling off as she seems to have turned the car into a wheeled skip! Seriously filthy inside and out, considering she runs a petrol station with free jetwash/carwash/hoover I was a little ticked off. I really don't drive the car very often as I use two wheels most days so hadn't noticed how bad it has got since I done a huge clean before Christmas.
She will have to do without it for two days this week while I get stuck in before I start work at 3pm

Nice to here you're going to pamper it! I use Collinite 476. Good stuff for protection.

You will be pleased to hear (and this is no offence intended) but its looking better than it ever has IMO.mikeyquattro wrote:Nice to here you're going to pamper it! I use Collinite 476. Good stuff for protection.
I started at 8 this morning on cleaning it, "finished" (tomorrow I do the insides) about 30 minutes ago as I had to drop the car back to the missus before I start work for the evening.
Soak in snow foam from my Gilmour foam gun
Rinse with low power jetwash
Megs APC and Super Degreaser engine bay, wheels, lower part of car and inside arches
Wash car and wheels by hand (Megs softwash gel and two buckets)
Rinse body, engine and wheel areas
Clay bar the entire car - this was a real eye opener for me, never done it before and the amount of crap left after washing was pretty bad. Bonus it removes all the tar spots too nicely
Wipe dry car, dry engine bay
Sprayed aerospace 303 stuff on engine black plastics/rubbers, door rubbers, black tail section plastic and other bits and bobs.
00 Wirewool and some metal polish for the tailpipes and chrome rings
Megs Crystal stage 1 and buff off
Megs Crystal stage 2 and buff off (this was a bit of a bitch to remove TBH, had to use the quick detailer spray which came with the clay kit in the end)
Collinite 476 for body and wheels and buff off.
Apply tyre dressing gel
Phew! All in all that was non-stop 6 hours work (except for a couple of tea making trips)
Though it looks stunning now, I swear that the Nogaro is the best colour

Best wax i have used so far is the Zymol destiny but is expensive. Not used the swissvax BOS but i have heard this is as good if no better than the destiny and is half the price. One thing i would say is the swissvax cleaner fluid is amazing stuff and the 356 wax is also brilliant
Have to say that so far this stuff is the Dog's danglies.
Prep with Meg's clay first then add coates of Swissol as instructed.

Tried this out and results were fantastic for the money. I've recently purchesed som Z**** Concours, but yet to try it out. Hopefully get into it mid to late April when the weather improves.stevieyid wrote:For this weather look no further than collinite 476 wax. About £15 a tub and very durable and fantastic shine
