New Merc SL

Post by GardinerG » Thu Jan 24, 2008 10:52 am

Mercedes has finally gone and ruined their (formerly) best looking car...

Now it just looks lardy and boring.

Next thing you know they'll be making the exhaust quieter on the AMGs. Grrrr.

Crikey it nearly looks as bad as the CLS (The Rover did this shape with the 75 model only it looked good)

the old SL (model R129) is about as good as they have done since the 300SL
'91 230E Merc. Made when Germany knew how!
'99 S4 Saloon Silver. Made after it had forgotten!

I have to admit to loving the pre-facelift SL55 AMG, nearly bought one over the '6, but practicality (and common sense-ish) won in the end. I've blasted one round a track a couple of times and you can be doing 140 and just not notice it. Well, right up until you get to a corner. Then it's like :dung: new pair of trousers please. The last time I drove the SL55 I raced a V12 Vantage up the A3 and I slowly overtook him even with the roof down - we both had big grins as we slowed down at the end.

I suppose we should thank Mercedes for increasing the residuals of the old style cars!

Mercedes trying to get a family face going, to be honest it does not work at all on this car and it looks hideous. Wanting to see the new E class AMG though, should be good seeing as the new C is quite nice
A Mercedes owner knows they made the wrong decision when their car rusts like a Lancia.

A BMW owner knows they made the wrong decision when their car is more common than a Mondeo.

An Audi owner knows they made the right decicision when they fly by the Mercedes and BMW owners.

If you squint (a lot), the grille looks vaguely reminiscent of the Pagoda SL.
