Two issues with my RS4.

Post by djcevo » Mon Dec 31, 2007 6:22 pm

First of all - the suspension started doing this before and it seems to have come back and to be honest I can't remember exactly what Audi did to repair it. When I go over a bump when the shock drops back down it knocks, no knocking on the way up, it's only on the way down. Any ideas???

Problem two: discs have just started to feel they they are warped, slight judder when braking gently, I have done no heaving braking at all!!! Again, any ideas?!?!?

Cheers

Discs do tend to go through cycles, mine felt as if they were warped after very heavy break into a roundabout, put them through a heat cycle, lots of hard breaking to build up heat then gently drive home and let them cool. Not heard of the knocking before, sounds like a top mount type of noise.

Suspension knocking - no idea, sorry.

But on the discs issue, it could be warped discs as you say, if they have got really hot over and over again. But also, if he car has been standing in the damp conditions for a while, maybe, just maybe , the pads have rusted to the discs. When you 1st drive away, the disc surface where the pads had been is rusty, and needs a few miles to scrub it back to normal.

I've had this on my race bike which has low steal discs, and hence rust easily. If it is this, then the judder may clear itself afte a few heavy breaking manouvres.... otherwise if warped, and its going to cost !

Hi there, new to Audi's after years of M3s. I've just collected a 10month old RS4 Avant. Front suspension creaks and groans and i have the knocking going over bumps. Is this really to be normal?? Also if the engines revved and allowed to return to idle, there a gentle squeek / groan from the back of the car. Sounds like something to do with the exhaust????

Took car in today for a health check and the front right shock had a slight leak and they are replacing both under warranty...

The car is not being used this week so they are arranging for collection from my home and return.

I must say, the dealer so far has been brilliant and happy to mention them, 'Watford Audi'.

Cheers

Nice to hear, I'm quite close to them so am considering taking the car to them for next service.

Could be the exhaust flaps opening as it returns to idle. Mine do the same.

Discs warped

Post by Skip » Wed Jan 09, 2008 7:45 am

Ye seems to happen, mine started to judder at 10k miles. Audi Dundee checked them and agreed they were warped replaced discs and pads on warrenty.
Not overly impressed with the quality of mine I bought second hand in Aug 07 with 7.6K on the clock. Has had 3 warrenty claims to date, front alloys peeling, discs, and driver seat air bladder leaking. Going in today as headlight washer seems to have given up the ghost.

PS had a test drive in Perth Audi's black R8 on Monday hate the manual gear box interior seams of lower quality than my RS4. Gonna get a test drive in the Rtronic one when it goes on the road in March.
