Dension Gateway 100

Post by S4TAN » Wed Dec 05, 2007 6:20 pm

Just installed this iPod adapter on my B5 S4 (with stock Concert radio) - neat little piece of kit and allows for a total stealth install (Gateway box hidden behind the head unit and cabled through to the iPod mounted inside the glove box) - so no external mount plates or wires visible.

iPod controlled directly from the head units CD-number and FF/FR buttons - scrolls through the playlists on the iPod and through the tracks within the playlists. DIS displays as normal.

Not bad at all for just under a ton

Nice find Jules
Cheers Phil :thumb:

If you get one you'll find that the instructions are crap, so just remember that the little black wire that has one end hanging free needs to connect to an earth (I used the earth on the head unit casing) - otherwise the Gateway unit won't work... I found this out the hard way. And you can run the cable from behind the head unit into the glovebox by popping out the glovebox lamp from its recess and pushing the cable through the hole for the lamp cable, then replace the lamp in it's recess - nice and neat and no drilling or hole-making required!

Screwdrivers and a hammer .... then I lost my temper and ripped it out with my lascerated and blood-soaked hands.

I get up early every morning to practice being stooopid - it seems to work well.

How does it work?? Is it just a cable? I have an AUX IN cable going from iPod into back of head unit bought from argos for £7.99 but u have to control it from the iPod.

I would assume that the gateway unit takes output signals from the head-units front panel controls and converts them to the appropriate input signals that allow for remote control of the iPods functions.

Got around to fitting this tonight. Just need to get familiar with the various controls now,but first impressions are good and it is great to have so much music 'on tap' and all at a good quality.
Just remember if you fit one of these empty out your CD changer as once the Dension is connected there will be no power to the autochanger and discs wiil be trapped!

Glad you got it working Phil!

There is a manual release method for the CD cartridge: slide a credit card/business card under the CD magazine and fish about until you trigger the release mechanism .... it does work, I've had to do it a few times myself when the magazine got stuck (before i fitted the iPod adapter)
