New Owner Brakes/Warranty Advice
New Owner Brakes/Warranty Advice
Hi There,
Weve had our Daytona Grey 03 Rs6 44k miles for 12 months now. The warranty has just run out and im considering which warranty to go with - any reccomendations would be gratefully received.
The car has FASH my dealer has advised me that the discs are worn but will last until the pads need replacing. Theyve quoted £1000 for the fronts and are getting back to me for the rears. Dearer than my F355 id had before kiddies arrived. Apart from this servicing has been pretty cheap £240/£400 so far. Had the belts done as part of the deal.
Id thought about going independent for this can anyone advise me on cost and reccomend a specialist in the northwest/north of england - seem to be few and far between up here.
Also how does one diagnose a DRC problem. Our car runs perfectly on motorways and smooth tarmac but on rougher services sometimes feels like a rattly old bucket - and I get an occasional knock from somewhere near the passenger footwell.
Anything else to watch out for.
Bloody good car though cant think of a better one for 3 kids and prams.
Many thanks for any replys
Cheers Yanek

RE: New Owner Brakes/Warranty Advice
Bought my discs (drilled) from ebay ... DSWAGEN ... about £420 .... then get any decent mechanic to fit them. OEM Pads were £180.
Warranty ..... would strongly suggest taking out the Audi Mondial one .... aftermarket does nto compare.

Drilled pads and discs all-round came to 1040 including vat and delivery, DIY job (Ordered from DSGWagen) . You'll need a caliper rewind tool if you intend to do the back pads or discs yourself.
RE: New Owner Brakes/Warranty Advice
get your drc checked - a clonking sound is an early sign that it might be on the way out.
ditto getting the audi extended warranty - it should cover discs & pads (it does here down under)...

RE: New Owner Brakes/Warranty Advice
Wont publish what I paid, but had full set of drilled discs and pads all round supplied and fitted by MRC for very very similar price to supply only from dsg geezer. possibly a bit far for you though.
Would get the torch out and get your head under the 4-corners of the car to check the dampers for hydraulic fluid leaks. Also check anti-roll bar bolts, you could have had a bolt shear?
For Warranty, Audi all the way for me, has paid dividends without any hassle at all.

oh, forgot to add... have claimed discs & pads under warranty, but it is by exception and very rare... classic wear and tear item, only covered under maintenance agreements if you bought less that 1 year old.

Steve .... out of curioisty why won't you publish here the deal you got ? Was it a one-off ?
RE: New Owner Brakes/Warranty Advice
my audi warranty (ex lease) covered discs and pads. excellent!
Re: RE: New Owner Brakes/Warranty Advice
No, not at all... Just that I did a deal with MRC and as they are'nt a chain/franchise or anything I thought it polite not to broadcast the price paid to doug. Feel free to call and ask him for a price, am sure it will be very competitive as they are honest about the ridiculous mark-up that most others charge and they don't follow suit.Wolverine wrote:Steve .... out of curioisty why won't you publish here the deal you got ? About your DRC
HI buddy,
I'm also learning fast about DRC and your faults sound the same as mine.
You have probably lost pressure in you shocks and they may show signs of weeping oil. This is a commone fault on the 6... I'm in the Northwest also and the best guys to discuss this with are the guys at Stoke Audi.May seem a little far to go but trust me after some conversations with various audi dealers they are the most knowlegable. The rattle is air in the shock cylinder resonating and due to the shocks running at 5 bar any air in the shock resevior will make this noise, it sounds like a bush or similar that packed up.
Make sure ur sat down for the quote and if your still not happy ABP motorsport at crewe can fit a full billstein set for £1200 and do away with the worries of DRC altogether.
Let me know how u get on..
