Had an accident on the way home!

Post by Matt_H » Wed Dec 05, 2007 10:37 pm

As title really, nothing very serious but I'm very pi$$ed off about it obviously!

Driving round some very narrow winding country lanes on the way home, came round a corner to find a car stationary waiting for me to pass in a place that was too narrow to do so, I was still going at about 15 miles an hour, wasn't really concentrating as I was thinking about work and what a crap day I'd had, and just drove straight into a gap that didn't exist, creased his (BMW) front wing and left deep scratces in a strip about 40mm wide all the way down the drivers side of my car. Not sure if they'll polish out yet, they look a bit deep to me, so thats only 2 doors, front and rear wing and front and rear bumper to respray!

The annoying this is it was totally my fault, I've been driving these narrow roads for years nad never come close to an an accident but I wasn't concentrating, though that dosen't mean I'm not upset about it - hey ho, a nice insurance claim to deal with then

I'm telling you guys as the missus just says that cars are fixable, but I know you guys will understand my pain and annoyance!

Condolences mate - scratched the side of my rear bumper slightly the other day due to not paying attention when reversing - pissed me off too.

I guess you are more annoyed with yourself rather than with the actual damage. It's gutting either way, but knowing you could have avoided it altogether is the final straw.

The car can be fixed up well (choose your body shop rather than the one the insurance company will try to palm you off with).

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Sorry to hear that mate. :(

I once stalled & hit a wall whilst parked. Scratched the front bumper - flirted with doing the RS4 front bumper job! Halfords repaired for £60.

Spot on Paul, though to be honest Raza, like you said I'll try not to get too stressed about it, though I probably can't get too stressed with it as there are so many other things on the go - Xmas coming up, loads of essays for my MBA to be in in a month or so and project managing install of a new MRP system at work - then I have to go and have an accident and an insurance claim to deal with -arrrrrrgggghhhh!

Still, it can be fixed and you guys are right, I need to find a good place to get in done - any recommendations around Luton/St Albans/Hemel hempstead/Milton Keynes area??

Matt ,

Trust me it couldve been worse ....
I know how you feel , my RS6 was in Audi last Nov 2006 . Borrowed the wifes Polo Gti to nip out and hey presto im ready to go back work in Jan 2008 !!!
30mph , van crossed the white line , head on 3ton vs 1ton etc etc
Shattered right knee , shattered pelvis , shattered right elbow , snapped a finger , fractered eye socket , screwed my sciatic nerve ...
1 month in Hospital , 6 months to walk , 8 months to drive . Just had 6th operation .

The thing that guts me is i was planning on the new RS6 next year but ive lost a years wages that would have gone towards it .

So chin up lad , know how you feel , could be alot worse . If anyone says youre lucky then tell to **** off

Chris

I know you all having a laugh eh. Anyway here goes the explanation - nothing to do with LSD S4TAN (perhaps your gimp suits miss you)!

Parking was really tight as it tends to be near dentists. Eventually I found a spot albeit really near a wall. Whilst pulling off thought I'd slotted reverse but it was in first. Next thing there was a dull thud - ouch.

First week I'd bought the S4 & was still acclamatizing with the vagaries of the gearchange & clutch bite. The jury is out. Admittedly it was a schoolboy error but surely worse has happened (or has it?). Hope my initial post cheered up Matt H as intended...
