No - mine is a facelift also - how the fcuk do you get the bulbs out without taking the headlights off then? :?

I had a look at lunchtime out of curiosity and i think tiny hands are the order of the day. Will get the missus to have a poke as my hands are never getting them out.

i found the easiest way was to remove the balast thing for the xenons, unclip the connector for the full beam and you can just reach inside and pull out the bulb holders for the sidelights. You need to give them a quarter turn but its not too bad. Obviously on the drivers side you need to remove the feed for the airbox but i found it sooo much easier once i unclipped the connector for the full beams.

No pre-facelift can do easy (once you've got the knack) without removing headlight unit from car.
I used special LED bulbs which match colour of Xenons and also (should) last a long time. Actually these are my second set which now include a heatsink to protect them from the main beam bulbs [which are HID] have been OK for nearly a year now.

if you have a facelift model i believe that you need the bayonet type.

Side light removal on Facelift S4

Post by Danian » Tue Oct 30, 2007 10:11 pm

Just had a look, there is a technique involved, this what I do. (I assume you know how to remove the air intake to get at the back of the drivers side headlight.)

1/ Undo the clip holding the cover on at the back of the head light and let the cover hinge down.

2/ Put two fingers into the back of the headlight and feel around for the sidelight and the wires going to it. Have a look from the front untill you see the side light move a bit. The wires you want are yellow/purple and brown.

3/ Pull the wires with your two fingers 'scissor like'. The side light will come out, its just an interference fit. Mine was loose so I use one layer of tape around the holder to make it fit tighter.

4/ The bulbs are a bayonet fitting so just push the bulb back into the holder whilst turning.

5/ To put the side light back in, hold it 'scissor like' again and aim it towards the hole it came from looking from the front again.

I have just bought some of these. Hope this helps :)

I used these, check site for bayonnet fitting

Heatsink stops heat from main beam bulb damaging the LEDs.
Main beam bulb is quite close and gets HOT!

P.S. Arrive from China in about a week from this seller, no problems

If you check this out you will notice the small print (in red) warning that the LED's will melt if closer than 3" to main beam bulb [which they are!]
please be warned !

Not melted but they don't last any longer than the original ones. Haven't tried the ebay ones yet.

Yes, my first set (pre-heatsink design) started to flicker after a few weeks.
This was in the last winter [dark nights] however and I do make a regular run over the Snake Pass late at night with mains on for relatively long periods AND I've got HID mains !
