I was told that the RS4 B5 cannot have a towbar because there is a risk of overheating?
An opinion is like an asshole, everybody has got one.

hi Jumbo. Would like to see the pics of your towbar and if you had any problems buying or fitting it. Thanks, chiefmechanic

heres the towbar, it took an afternoon to fit and it takes 2 people. its the westfalia kit no 305220 as part numbers have changed over time and for s4 avant 99-01 model. ive put the light connector in the wheel well away from the grime and salt. but there is a hinged bracket attatched to the fixed part of the towbar whick folds down to use but you have to cut away more bumper on the left side so i didnt bother. i have a pic of the removable part but i would have to start a new post to load it up. theres also a place for it to go in the polystyrene wheel well thingy... 8)

Hi Jimbo, Did you get an electric pack with the towbar and if so is there a plug somewhere in the boot or does it go into the lights at either side. What was the part number for it and does it interfere with the auto check. cheers, Brian

towbar electrics

Post by chiefmechanic » Wed Oct 24, 2007 7:03 pm

Hi Jimbo. Thanks for the reply. I got my towbar today which will hopefully be fitted soon. I had hoped that there would be a plug somewhere in the rear quarters that i could plug the electrics straight into but i cannot see one. Does anyone know if there is one on the s4 avant and what it looks like. Thanks, Brian

Just bought the Westfalia kit listed above for £167 off ebay from towequipe, model listed above - 305220. Came to £182 delivered. Really good price for a detachable tow bar I think. I'll have a go at fitting that maybe next weekend, if it's arrived by then. Fitted a bosal one to my old B6 1.8TQS Avant, which was not too difficult.

I might be finally able to use my trailer again and take that rubbish to the dump that I keep getting nagged about! Will post how fitment goes and maybe take some photos too.
