Ouch Ouch Ouch.

My first AVS was £315 inc Haldex (in london!) i did have a 'chat' about the cost and settled on £315.

Guys I would advise you not let your dealer change your tyres. I fully understand the motivation behind it - i.e. a dealer will take more care of it, is used to the 17inch wheels etc etc, more chance of getting somewhere if it goes wrong etc...

Here's what I found out: My dealer once quoted me around £160 for a 225/45 ZR17 Bridgestone REO40. I only asked them out of curiosity anyway, but after another little chat it transpired that they don't actually change the tyres on site, but instead take them to a local tyre fitter! Yes thats right, not only does your car end up in the hands of god knows who, but presumably someone has to drive your car there and back - 2 miles e/w in this case. I wonder if this is explained when you agree to let them change tyres? I personally doubt it. Then - who drives it? Audi mechanic or is it collected by one of the 17 year old tyre fitters?

As it happens, the tyre fitter they use IS good, and I had a Bridgestone off them not long before this for £105. That would be a saving of £220 on a set of tyres for EXACTLY the same service!!!

Alternatively, do as I did and shop around on tyres (please!) - i got a set of Eagle F1s at £92 a corner from Bracknell Tyre and Battery Almost £300 in my back pocket

Inigo

I didnt buy my tyres thru Audi. In fact they were at a discounted rate.

£165 each for mitchelin Pilot Sport 225/40/zr18 88Y's

I phoned around, looked on the net. and could not find a better deal. Plus I knew they would not damage my RSTT's unlike some places.

Was that £165 including fitting?
How much are the tyres on their own?
I had a quote about 1.5years ago from a local tyre place for £110-120 each.... he was only making £10-20 profit out of them

Just had my first AVS service. Came to £302.17

breakdown of costs:

Labour:
AVS service £152 + vat
Haldex oil change £32 + VAT

Parts:

Filter £4 + vat
Filter £13 + vat
Screenwash £2.02 + vat
H/D Oil £8.55 + vat
Plug £0.60 + vat
Longlife £45 + vat

They also changed all four coil packs under warranty (I hadnt had a problem so far)

They also assured me that 'Longlife' means Formula SLX as I queried this because some people end up with Longlife II in error...

for the record, anyone know how much it costs for a Golf 4 motion to be serviced along the same lines??

The dealer that Dunc went to in Camberley is a combined VW/Audi service centre and I bet the same staff service both types of cars, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a difference in the costs!!

Outrageous charges!!

If it wasn't for my warranty, I'd take my car elsewhere!! Shame really as it just dampens the enjoyment of owning an Audi IMO.

they also give it the large one about cleaning your car, part of the Audi pledge - well i reckon they do a job like them car park cleaners, just a touch of water and rub all the grit in. I had sprays of dirt from Donington under the doors, and its still there (not to mention all the flies and bits)

If I dont renew my warranty this could be the only time my car gets serviced by Audi - I would go to AMD, but maybe I will have to renew the warranty considering the amount of things that I have had done so far...
