iam also defecting to an r8 i have been very lucky and been offered a deal for a new r8 with no premium as iam a long standing audi customer and this is a cancelled order,so my beloved rs4 avant has to go a at a cracking price, only covered 595 miles,so if you want a bargain have alook at classifieds and save yourself a fortune on new price. Thanks to all you guys for some wonderful advise and help and see you on the other side.

Your not defecting my friend :D You've taken an amazing opportunity to purchase a super car. I am jealous but in time after I 've had fun with the RS4 I too will move up to something. :) :)

sorry pg but iam sure you are happy with your car,but the sunroof is nice,t urbo not to worried about performance as my other car is a f car with lots of performance, the r8 iam buying for looks as i think its its different than any other car out there and more importantly i can keep it 12/18 monthes and hopefully not lose a penny as i only do 2/3 thousand miles a year.Theres not many cars you can do that with, and im sick and tired of losing money to the dealers, look at my rs4 avant flaming £7500 loss in 8 weeks thats £13.00 per mile GOD!!!!!!!!!.

Can i ask how it made a bad performance?? Reason for only just loosing on 1/4 mile was due to 4 wheel drive and clarkson absolutely loved it!!

Simon, I'm sure you could shift your RS within a couple of weeks for somewhere between what you paid for it and the p/x value. They tried to do the same to me on my S4 and it was a B6; some Audi dealers were only looking to give me £16K for a 2004 '54' with 47,000 miles on it yet it was sold for small change less than £24K. I got £22K for it in the end with some hard nosed haggling.

I think the worry is that some dealers are buying RS's recently and not making any money on them moving them on, so they are trying to give you rock bottom given your R8 is here to pressure you to cave in and for them to make a £4-5K margin out of your RS. Better than you paying 10-12K over list for an R8 is probably the logic.

My R8 arrives March. I also feel like a defector, having owned a B5 & B7 and covered 230,000 miles in them colectively.

Never the less, the R8 is THE car to upgrade to, if you don't need the practicality of the RS. If you haven't driven one, then DO. Having tried every other obvious alternative car (911 4S, New M3, New M5, AM-V8) the 8 beats them all.

So if anyone wants an RS4 B7 in March fro £35k, mine will be available
