Power Steering Pump replacement advice sought

Post by RS2_freak » Thu Jul 26, 2007 6:47 pm

Hi folks,

My power steering pump is bleeding itself dry (I'm currently topping it up and have tried Lucas power steering fluid to no avail).

Are they easy to replace? I dont see one that's obvious listed by GSF - is it the same as another model (standard 80, 100 or A4)? Or is it time to visit the main dealer?

Cheers!
Neal

Just replace the "O" rings under the cross headed plugs. That is the usual place where they leak. Best take the pump off and take an old ring to the nearest o ring or hydraulic spares place... don't think the staelers sell them...

Do you have a factory tow bar? I also tow with mine,,, race cars only!

no no no,, always use AUDI steering fluid and nothing else because you will end up replacing the steering pump....replace the o rings and drain all fluid out and use audi steering fluid ONLY

My pump also packed up, stripped it and found small non return valve stuck. From old non Audi oil. Did not actually have to take pump out to get to non return valve.
