Sat Nav / Radio Issues

Post by crispy » Fri Jun 01, 2007 9:36 am

Hello :bigwave:

I have had my Daytona Grey RS4 Avant now for 3 months. Whilst it has been great and I love it to bits, I have had a few teething issues that I find quite irritating

Firstly, I seem to have locked horns with the dealer over who should pay to remove the hideous phone cradle. Why oh why did Audi stick that carbuncle there, and spoil a really nice interior?

Secondly and more importantly, my radio always comes on at the same volume, regardless of what volume it was turned off at. I wouldn't mind too much, but it is too loud. Why can't it just come on at the volume it was set at when it was turned off? (Or am I missing something?)

Thirdly, the satnav doesn't mute the radio when giving instructions. This means that you can't understand what instructions are being given! Again, am I missing something?

The car has been back to the dealer several times, and they don't seem to be getting anywhere either

I just wondered if anyone else on here had had similar problems ie TADTS...

daytona - jolly nice

why oh why did you not read the brochure / options list properly when speccing your car? Sorry but I am with Audi on this one although I agree the bluetooth options seem to have been designed by a <beep> - lose your lovely RS4 wheel or have a crappy 80s cradle stuck to your dash like a wart

Congrats on the car and colour...best colour if I may say so myself :D

My sat nav lady seems to mute the radio/cd when she speaks. I found her too loud so I turned her down through settings. Not sure how you can get the general stereo volume down when turning ignition on...mine again seems to just come on at the level I had set it when turning the car off. There must be a setting for this too somewhere.

I went to CraigB and he put a new centre console in, I think it was £150 inc labour??

IM him and see what the best idea is.

I agree it looks pants and was not a great well thought out idea in the first place.

Ah, thats what I got for listening to the salesman! He also told me to order the car with the 6 CD changer, as the Ipod connection can be dealer fitted after, allowing the use of both. Well guess what, when I took the car back to say the CD changer didn't work, he went and fetched the technicial who informed both of us that it was one or the other!

The brochure I specced my car from didn't list the black option pack either, luckily I saw a car with it, and asked for it on my car. The other option I would have chosen if it was in the brochure I had, would have been the dark alloys. Seems there isn't too much consistancy between brochure packs and the options list!

I still love the car though :D

Me too, two weeks after taking delivery, best £150 I have spent in a while...

Mine was pre-owned so not specced by me, car is much better inside now and has all the functionality of before...

schoolboy error ;) to be honest the ipod connection is totally crap so you are better off with the CD and use the SD card slots for mp3. You can fit a Denison thingie that allows ipod connection AND changer (Gateway 500) but it is not cheap.

at least you got optics (much nicer on daytona and black cars)

the titanium wheels is only a very recent addition I believe and not well promoted in UK

Before you go off and spend £150, I had exactly the same issue with my RS4. I asked for the cradle to be removed and now use Blue Tooth to connect and this works perfectly.

However, if you remove the cradle there will be a fair size circular whole and a large square whole in the side of the dash. Lee Valley Audi told me that they could repair this instead of replacing that section of the dash. Given that it is plastic and grained I was v sceptical!

They repaired the dash for free and said that they would replace the dash if I was not completely and utterly satisfied.

The guy they outsourced this to does these types of repair all the time and the result is amazing!! He repaired and finished this to the point where I cannot tell where the wholes were he also grained the repair to match the existing dash.

If you are interested I can dig out the repairers details as I kept them. I am at work at the moment so can post later.

It may save to some time and hassle and I believe that the cost is circa £50.

Good Luck

Jeff

That sounds good, I want to get mine removed. Does the cradle contain any of the bluetooth gubbins or is it just literally a power source for the adapters?

If Jeff used Lee Valley I guess the guy is somewhere in the North London area.
