Re-Mapping and gearbox probs

Post by Paulm » Thu May 24, 2007 9:20 pm

Hi,

Thinking of ditching the BM and buying an RS6 Avant.

My question is how reliable is the gearbox on these cars. I have been searching through the site and see quite a few failing even on standard cars

How many on here have remapped their RS? Have you had any box probs and do you know how much torque your are running.

cheers

Swap the BM for a 535d, remap it and the RS6 will still be more fun and quicker.

Need any other convincing?

Running std 450BHP and no gearbox prob's.

Why would you be comparing a 535Diesel to an RS6?? If you ignore the smell and the noise of the diesel you are still left with a choice between a (semi) common car and an exclusive car IMHO. Performance wise, you just can't compare them, both can be tuned, the RS6 to easily 500Bhp+ (not forgetting the fact that the higher BHP is because of the higher rev limit).

I dislike the current BMW styling, but many like it. Oh and then there's the 4WD...and trying to put that much power down on winter roads with RWD. Many of my friends run BMW diesels and they all sound like tanks, even though I totally respect they can do 2 to 3 times the MPG the RS6 does. As I said, this is just my humble opinion.

Which are you after, MPG or GPM?? (Grins Per Mile)

Have you driven a '6 yet, if not you should!

I toyed with the idea if a 535d; definitely go for the '6! Smiles per gallon all the way!

600lbs how did you get that much. A chipped RS has only around 480ish

What boost are you running?

I am not knocking it just sounds awesome if I can get 600 lbs of torque

Stock is 560 Nm and 415lbs/ft (not RS6+), you're confusing the two. :)
.
FYI AMD do tuning packages that range from:
+55Bhp and 50lbs/ft.
to
+150Bhp and 105lbs/ft depending on the size of your wallet.

And 520lbs/ft would equal 705Nm if my calculations are correct... ouch. Don't know if that helps.

if surprised at the breadth of your quest. you are comparing radically different cars. the rs though is the best compromise between speed, handling, practicality and residuals of which i am aware....
