ESP Light

Do you guys mean ESP or traction control ? Same light in dash but completely different reasons for seeing it come on.

Anyone who can get traction issues in 3rd or 4th gear is doing very well indeed or has car problems

prob be the traction control then if its the same light as flashes on dash when it kicks in. Only seems to happen when over taking or general harsh acceleration on straight bits of road. I'll try it left on and try powering out of corners since had the ARB's done might not need to be turned it off, although still doesn't solve the straight line problem. All was fine till i changed the rear tyres and ARB's might be worth swapping wheels for front to back to see if the older tyres now on the front cause the same problem.

Thats interesting. Must be traction control and perhaps due to a setup issue, as you suggest.

I have noticed that running a much larger rear ARB (and having less understeer) reduces the ESP involvement considerably.

Is there a big difference in tyre tread front-rear or are some of the tyres different types ?

yes and yes to the last bit. Got the old tyres on front that are just about to be changed and pretty much brand new toyo T1-R's on the rear. They have different profile of 40's on the front and 45's (ordered by mistake)on the rear which might be the problem the new ones will be 45's for the front so as not so harsh plus will cut back on a bit of road noise from the tyres. Maybe its the this difference of the profile plus higher tread thats causing the problems as the quattro system might not be happy with such a difference between front and rear will get new tyres ordered up as fronts at end of their life now

That will be the problem for sure. Be careful, the difference in rolling radius will be loading the centre diff too.

yep will order some now soon as you mentioned tyre tread difference i realised that the profile difference could be causing the prob i didn't even realise i'd bought 45's until a week after they went on as i got them on the net an was ordering 17"/45's for other car and had 45's stuck in my mind oops lol

Sorted. The standard size is 225/45 but I've mostly used 235/40's (in sets ). A bit wider and the lower, stiffer sidewalls help the handling.
